THE DESCENT was one of the most impressive horror films made in the last 20 years. The film made roughly $26M here in the States, although it should have made a lot more, because it deserved to. Was it a result of inefficient marketing? Either way, the film was successful enough internationally as well, and a sequel, banally titled THE DESCENT PART 2, was made with two of the original cast members returning from the first film: Shauna Macdonald and Natalie Jackson Mendoza reprising their roles as Sarah and Juno, respectively.
It is being reported that this sequel will bypass theatrical exhibition entirely and Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release it on DVD on April 27, 2010.
Directed by Jon Harris, who was the editor of the horrific EDEN LAKE, makes his directorial debut with this film.
We'll have a review of it here in the coming months.
