CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND SCREENING IN BRYANT PARK

Although it is not a horror film, I still felt compelled to tell you Spielberg fans out there that the 2009 HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival in New York City will end on Monday, August 17, 2009 with a 9:00 pm outdoor screening of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. Bring blankets/chairs to sit on the lawn which opens at 5:00 pm. The description gives a running time of 132 minutes, which infers that it is the 1980 Special Edition. The screening is free and is more than likely a video projection. This is a great opportunity to talk and mingle with other fans of this great film. Go here for more info:

Watch the skies! Richard Dreyfuss embarks on an obsessive quest for answers after witnessing a low-flying UFO. Legendary French director Francois Truffaut plays a scientist seeking communication with the (friendly?) aliens. Steven Spielberg takes us from Mexico to Mongolia, from India to Indiana to show that we earthlings are not alone. The majestic musical score was Oscar-nominated, but double nominee John Williams lost to himself for STAR WARS. Pre CGI, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND is movie magic of the first kind. 132 Min. (1977) Panavision 2.35:1

Bryant Park is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and runs from West 40th Street to West 42nd Street. It is easily accessible from the B, D, F, V, and 7 subway lines. The B, D, F, and V lines can be taken from Herald Square on Broadway between West 33rd and West 34th Street, one block east of New York’s Pennsylvania Station.
