A remake of Joseph Rubin's 1987 thriller THE STEPFATHER is due for big-screen release in October 2009. The tagline reads, "This fall, Daddy's home." The film is geared towards the PG-13 set and replaces the female character played by Jill Schoelen in the original with a you man (Penn Badgley) who returns to his home just out of military school to find that his mother (Sela Ward) has moved her new boyfriend (Dylan Walsh) into the house. Is this new guy really the man of her dreams? Well, if he was, they wouldn't have made a movie about it now, would they?!
The original still has yet to see the light of day on a Region 1 DVD, and it is this scribe's hope that the release of the remake will also precipitate the DVD release of the original. I still love that film's original poster as seen on the left.
Can anyone really outdo Terry O'Quinn and his "Home, sweet, home! And all that...crap!!!" routine?
