FORREST J. ACKERMAN MEMORABILIA TO BE PART OF AUCTION
It has been almost three months since legendary "Famous Monsters of Filmland" editor and science fiction memorabilia collector Forrest J. Ackerman passed away at the age of 92, but his memory lives on. Affectionately known as "Forry" by his peers and fans, Ackerman won the hearts of legions of followers with his avuncular invitations to his eponymous 18-room Hollywood Hills mansion which billows with nearly half a million books, photos, posters, and toys related to nearly every facet of the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres.
In the coming weeks, hundreds of these items will be auctioned off at the Forrest J Ackerman Estate Auction. It is a feature of the Profiles in History spring auction of Hollywood memorabilia occurring on April 30 and May 1, 2009. Prior to that, several of these major items will be on display at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles during the tribute's opening reception on March 8, 2009 between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Some of the items on display include the Dracula ring worn by Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula; Lugosi's robe from THE RAVEN; a cape made for Lugosi in 1932 and used many times for his stage portrayal of Dracula as well as in Lugosi's performance in PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE; a first edition of the book, "Dracula" signed by Bram Stoker and inscribed by Bela Lugosi to Forry Ackerman (also signed by a host of other Dracula-related personalities); the "Maria" robot from METROPOLIS and Fritz Lang's monocle, which he wore when he directed METROPOLIS and given to Forry by Lang.
