UPCOMING TEXAS FRIGHTMARE WEEKEND CONVENTION

Happy New Year, horror fans. It’s hard to believe that this decade is slowly coming to a close. For those of you who are aficionados of the horror convention circuit, there are more and more conventions cropping up all over the country. This is great news for horror fans indeed as those of you who may not live near such entertainment hubs as Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, or New York can now have the opportunity to meet your favorite horror stars and filmmakers in locations closer to home.

The Texas Frightmare Weekend is one of the largest Living Dead conventions ever produced and will be held for four days from February 21 – 24, 2008 at the Hilton Dallas Forth Worth Lakes Executive Convention Center. The hotel is offering a discounted rate for Friday and Saturday (Thursday and Sunday discounts have been claimed, so hurry to get in on Friday and Saturday).

On Thursday, February 21, a reunion will be held for the 40th Anniversary of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and an off-site venue to-be-announced. Keep checking their website for details. George A. Romero’s seminal 1968 film really put explicit horror films on the map and gave birth to some truly creepy films that scared most of us to death when we were kids in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The remaining days will see salutes to DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, LAND OF THE DEAD, and there will be news about Romero’s upcoming DIARY OF THE DEAD. Filmmakers and cast members from these films are scheduled to appear all three days.

All guests are scheduled to meet with fans on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The doors will open at 10:00 am on Friday, February 22 for those of you interested in early admission. The price is $25.00 per person to get in at 11:00 AM, otherwise general admission begins at 12:00 PM at $20.00 per person. You may visit the dealer rooms and obtain autographs for a fee until 5:00 PM, at which point the signings will cease and the vendors will close.

On Friday evening for an additional $65.00 you may attend a party and mingle with the celebrities. Please note that TICKETS ARE NON REFUNDABLE, NON TRANSFERRABLE and NON EXCHANGEABLE FOR ANY REASON. As of this writing on New Year’s Day, there are 34 of these tickets left, so if you are interested in approaching Malcolm McDowell and saying “Viddy well, lit’le brother!” and then offering him a drink, my suggestion is to hurry and order.

Saturday morning, February 23, at 9:00 AM begins the registration for early admission which will allow you in at 10:00 AM for the cost of $25.00 per person. Guest signings and vendors will be available. The general admission begins an hour later at 11:00 AM at $20.00 per person. Throughout the day there will be more functions occurring such as discussions with filmmakers and cast members and we will update you with this info as the convention dates get closer. At 6:00 PM the signings and vendors will close and screenings and discussions will continue into the evening. Please note that the convention has no control over when the celebrities decide to pack up for the night, so it is advised that you meet those you want to meet as early as possible. Celebrities are known for packing it in much earlier than the 6:00 PM closedown time as it is up to their individual discretion.

On Sunday morning at 9:00 AM the registration for early admission, which will allow you in at 10:00 AM for the cost of $25.00 per person, begins. Guest signings and vendors will be available. The general admission begins an hour later at 11:00 AM at $20.00 per person. Throughout the day there will be more functions occurring such as discussions with filmmakers and cast members and we will update you with this info as the convention dates get closer. At 5:00 PM the signings and vendors will close and screenings and discussions will continue into the evening. Once again, the convention has no control over when the celebrities decide to pack up for the night. Celebrities and vendors both pack up much earlier on Sunday to get to the airport, so please plan accordingly.

You may also purchase a general admission weekend pass for three days for $50.00, or an early admission package for $65.00 for all three days.

What movie was this??? Can you help? (Lord Ruthven)
It's a pretty sweet movie. You can watch the trailer and read some reviews of the movie at spout.com.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (Lord Ruthven)
Creepy but the ending isn't the best. How can you kill the ultimate evil? The idea's have been explored better in the movies actually. I know that in the Hammer series they always kill Dracula (and usually in a sweet way) but the fact that he comes back in every

It's not creepshow the movie came out in the late sixties or early seventies.

Anyone seen cloverfield yet? (Lord Ruthven)
The movie has a lot of potential that it failed to exploit. The characters are all pretty one dimensional. the premise is interesting though, and the style fits. It's an alright movie, entertaining enough to watch. I would not call this a horror movie. I agree with elmonstro1982 on spout.com
