Despite some release delays, UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION turned out to be just as big a hit as the first installment. Most of the original's fans were pleased with the end result (personally, I thought EVOLUTION was a little better) while detractors of the original didn't have their minds changed. Well, that's what cult cinema is, folks.
So, Len Wiseman is planning a third UNDERWORLD film. This one will be a prequel, so maybe we can expect to see more medieval vampishness.
What we apparantly won't see is Kate Beckinsale.
Say it 'aint so! No classically trained British actresses going gun crazy and uber-goth in black latex?
Has Ms. Beckinsale gotten too good for UNDERWORLD? Will she abandon her fangs and LAUREL CANYON days for more PEARL HARBOR and SERENDIPITY? No, don't worry. Obviously, Kate isn't too good for UNDERWORLD since the writer-director Len Wiseman is her husband. Rather, it seems that the third installment will be a prequel that goes back so far that it predates the Selena character altogether.
"I think it's a prequel before I'm actually in it, so I think that won't include me if it happens," Beckinsale said in a recent interview.
Well yeah, that's what I said.
No word if Selena will return in a fourth installment. UNDERWORLD 3 is currently in the scripting stage.
