This decade's been pretty decent so far with movies like...

28 Days Later (2002)
28 Weeks Later (2007)
High Tension (2003)
1408 (2007)

all of which you may have already seen. But some lesser knowns are...

Venom (2005)
Session 9 (2001)
Frailty (2000)

which are also among the best of this period.

Anyone saw Shutter? Was dissapointed... Figured it would be as typical of The Ring and The Grudge, and it was similar but not as good at all. It was slooow, and not scary.. when they were getting to a shocking part, they almost reached it, and pulled back, leaving the viewer disappointed, and had other less than amusing parts...

If anyone else likes it, cool! but it's not making the 2008 Great horror movie cut for me!

An Indie film Timber Falls was sick, you guys have to check it out. It's about a couple hiking and end up in the twisted world of a satic couple who form a blood ritual with the couple. Check out the trailer at myspace.com/timberfallsmovie, let me know what you think.

I would say The Grudge, Frailty (definatly my fav for this period), The descent, Wrong Turn (yep I love inbred cannibals), Saw and Behind the mask: the rise of Leslie Vernon.

Wow. I liked Shutter alot. I assume you mean the original, not the American remake. If you are, however, talking about the American version, that would make more sense as the original was much better.

Didn't enjoy Wrong Turn 2 so much.... kinda boring. Saw 4 was kinda confusing... enjoyable but confusing.. need to watch it again.. Hope Saw 5 explains more... Definately want to see it though!

Venom I haven't seen, but given the other two you list are among my absolute favourites I think I better look out for it.

I don't know, I think it's tough to list for this decade so far. Certainly I don't think I could offer much outside of what's already been mentioned. Once SESSION 9 is listed my "you probably haven't, but you've GOT TO see this" list is gone.

DOG SOLDIERS is a lot of fun.
DAWN OF THE DEAD remake had no right to be a good film, but it was.
SAW 1 and 2, is all I've seen so far. But I think they deserve a good bit of the kudos they've gotten.
THE EYE (Asian version, natch). Mainly because I think they are some of the creepiest ghosts commited to celluloid.
[REC], if you could dig a zombie movie shot on a handheld camera, and in Spanish. I did. It's short, it's cheap, it starts slow, but there's some pretty effective moments in there.

WRONG TURN, got to say I hated that with a vengeance (sorry BW!). I just found it completely insipid.
Oh and avoid American remakes of Asian horror like the plague. They started "meh" and got worse. Much worse.

I'll have a further think Andy, see if anything else unrattles from my brain.

I love it just because it was the first movie in a while that reminded me of the 70's slasher kind of movie.

A few that have already cropped up here that I like - The Descent and Dog Soldiers were both very good, I also enjoyed Dawn of the Dead, Wrong Turn and the Saw series of films - A couple that haven't been mentioned here are Madhouse and Whisper (both are pretty good for lesser known films)

Madhouse - Fairly low budget, but nicely done.
Whisper - Similar to the Omen in a lot of ways and it's a decent film.

Yeah I can dig that. It just didn't strike with me. Though I will confess I probably only watched it for Eliza Dushku.

We've reviewed MADHOUSE, but I've never seen it.
WHISPER I must confess I've never even heard of. I thought it was a John Travolta film until I saw it on IMDB.
