Default Also, question about "Audition" plzzz

Ok, another good movie, but I didn't get one thing. Was the person in that Potato Sack Bag a man or woman? Thought the Main Character tortured her Male Boss from another audition, but I remember the guy working at the bldg of the place said a woman had her three fingers and tongue cut off. Then when the person was exposed (w/o feet, etc) I couldn't tell if it was a male or female. Anyone?? Thanks!!

Audition isn't all that clear on this, in my opinion, but I got the feeling it was a "representation" of ther relations with men more than an actual bagged someone.

Should clarify that after a particular scene in this movie my brain has done what it can to totally forget it the whole picture. Not that is bad, mind you, it is just way too strong a scene for my taste.

Which scene? THE scene!!! I mean, there are many things in "audition" that are vaguely unsettling.. but... nearing the end... oh hell trying not to give away any spoilers here but you know what she does! THAT gave me a strong headache.

Bringing this back from the grave..

I Just watched it and I totally enjoyed the movie. The scene was very strong and the BF couldn't stand it till the end, He had to leave form the bathroom and almost lost his supper. I, on the other end, went through the whole thing without any problems, except for the feeding scene that gave me a gag reflex... anyway sorry for the details.

I think that the bagged person is the director from the record company. The person they found in the building was the owner of the bar, a she, and the extra parts were those of the Director.

I strongly recommend that movie if you have a strong stomach and if you want more than just normal horror.

Any similar suggestions? would "I spit on your grave" be in the same genre?

I remember a few films that have made me "gag"....

Human Pork Chop
Salo
Theatre of Blood (when I was a kid and first saw the scene where the guy is being forced to eat his poodles in a pie)

I must admit that if I am looking for "more than just normal horror" I usually end up looking toward Asia. They seem to do it really well. There are many that have made me feel really uncomfortable.

Red to Kill
Naked Blood

What a woman! Did you take any delight in your BF's discomfort?

I actually haven't seen AUDTION yet. I taped it off TV and never got round to watching it. Sure I'd heard good things about it, but I was expecting a fairly typical "Girl hacks Boy" tale, even if it's one done very well.
Would you say it's more than that, and something worth making a bit more effort to see?

SQ, I have certainly not gone out of my way to see the "Category 3" movies. I'm not sure how much I have the stomach for it. When I hear of the delights of films like NEKROMANTIK my first thought is "well, maybe not...".

What do you think of the merits of these movies in general. Does the gag-factor spoil them, or does it actually add something (nicely) unsettling to it? Like a rollercoaster ride, that's just ever so slightly dangerous.

By the way, if you're looking to read up on the merits of the "Category 3" stuff, you can't do much better than a topic created by a long-missed Horror Express legend, DevilMan. Read this for a 10-mini-review writeup of Asian Category 3 movies (including the likes of Audition and Human Pork Chop).

Steve, we miss you mate.

Checked out that link, very interesting, I hadn't realised how many of those sick films I'd seen. Now I am truly worried about my mental state

To be honest I watched quite a few of these "Category 3" films a few years ago. My motive for watching them at the time was because they were popular then. I do not regret watching them but the films in this category that I haven't seen I won't be searching them out.

The films certainly have their place in the horror genre and they wouldn't be the same without the "gag factor" IMO. They are what they are.

I remember sitting in front of the TV having heard the reputation of these films and being really nervous about watching them. It's been a while since I have felt like that.

I certainly would not recommend them and I would not say that you have missed out as a horror fan if you have never viewed these kind of films.

Wow, of all those Cat3 films, I've only scene Audition. However, as the Scream Queen points out, it's nothing much to miss.

Interesting titles though. "Human Pork Chop" ?? yikes!!

The only thing memorable about that film for me now is how funny the subtitles were. A great deal of what was being said was getting lost in translation which made some parts of the film unnervingly funny.

One classic one went something like "Hurry, out of the way, I'm going to stool myself"

Well, I just bought the dvd. My dad loves gore flicks, so it's gonna be a little present lol

I may watch it too, not sure. Is it like Hostel, just more torturing?? I have to admit, I did like Hostel, just a slow burn.

"John Shaft" gives a link above which if followed will answer all your questions I'm sure.

"Devilman" will do a better job than me of explaining.
