Hey, is anyone interested in the infamous Asian "Category 3" film genre? If so, I have a mess of movie reviews I could post for ya to devour. Just let me know.

But be warned, you're not likely to ever be the same after reading them... or lord forbid, you ever actually see any of these celluloid obscenities!

What about "DR. LAMB"? is that a CAT 3 movie? I've got it on backorder from Deep Discount because it was pretty cheap and I've been hearing how fucked up it is for years.

I've been meaning to order a copy of THE UNTOLD STORY on the strengh of whay I've read about it online. I'll get it one of these days.

I wasn't overly impressed with the "Entrails.." or Guinea Pig movies though FLOWEROF FLESH AND BLOOD can be pretty shocking if you don't know what to expect. I first saw it at a Skinny Puppy show......

Oh yeah, DR. LAMB is most certainly a CATEGORY 3 flick. Oh what vile viewing it brings to the table.

Okay, I'll start posting some C3 reviews as soon as I can.

AUDITION

Oh, those wacky, wacky Japanese! I really wonder what the hell is wrong with their culture when it comes to insane movie making such as this. AUDITION (based on a story by writer RYU MURAKAMI) was my first plunge into the Oriental "BODY HORROR" genre. And boy, let me tell ya, did the master of provocative movie matter, director TAKASHI MIIKE (who's also held responsible for the necrophilia, incest, problematic family-unit flick, VISITOR Q) really do a job on me!

But first, let me explain what I mean by "BODY HORROR". Simply put, the overall focus of AUDITION boils down to the gratuitous bodily dismemberment and mutilation of another human being. Oh, there is a love story in here but I swear that the ending will leave you sooo shell-shocked that it'll certainly make you forget about that altogether.

But in case you need reminding, AUDITION tells the story of an older fella (and a pretty nice guy too), Aoyama (played by actor RYO ISHIBASHI) who's wife had died years ago. His son urges him to date again but Aoyama's just not too sure how to start since it's been such a long time. Luckily, he works as a movie casting director so he sets up a fake audition to hopefully land his would-be girlfriend. And he does. The opportunity arises for him to meet 24-year old Asami (played by the lovely actress EIHI SHIINA). Everything seems to work out fine between them on their various dates and what have you until it's time for them to have sex. She offers herself to him freely only if he promises to love her, and love ONLY her. Not thinking (or rather, reading between the lines) about exactly what she's asked him to promise her, he agrees to do so and that's that, whoopee is made. Well, you guessed it, she soon finds out that the audition was a setup and he even has a son, whom he certainly loves more than her, sooo BAM!, his promise has been broken (he no longer loves ONLY her) and she promptly goes about to fuck him up something awful!

So, brace yourself and if you can make it through the VERY slow opening hour (it's all in build up), you'll be rewarded with some truely outrageous and horrific scenes of disturbingly graphic gore and offensive imagery which I guarantee that you may NEVER be able to forget. This is FATAL ATTRACTION on a whole different, deeper level of depravity. My God, I kept asking myself how could such a sweet little Japanese girl do such horrible things to a man's body?!

I have to set the tone for you and tell you about one of her prior victims without spoiling too much about the film itself. This girl keeps a man in a human-sized potato sack. She has sawed off his feet so he can't run away if he gets out of the tied bag. She has snatched out his tongue so he can't speak other than making a moist, gurgling sound. She has cut off most of his fingers and makes him crawl on all fours. But the capper is, without a doubt, FEEDING TIME. After she's eaten her dinner, she throws it back up into a dog dish and serves this peach-colored, chunky gruel to him. We're actually shown this as he laps it up as a feral animal would. Humgh! I'm feel like I'm about to blow chunks my damn self!

And that's not even the worst part of the film either. It comes at the end in a massive wave of unsettling sensory hysteria that'll have you scrambling to find the "STOP" button on your DVD remote. And when it's done, you'll sit there, as I did, and stare blankly at the screen wondering if what you actually saw was something that was meant for human consumption. Shame on you, TAKASHI MIIKE, shame on you!

THE EBOLA SYNDROME

Well, in the "Underground Cinema", you'll certainly meet all kinds of strange, disgusting, repulsive, and unredeemable people (it's the nature of the beast, I guess). But I have to admit that good old fat-faced Chinese scumbag, ANTHONY WONG takes the cake for the the MOST repugnant, appalling man in existence. I mean, the guy displays just about everything that's loathsome in the human male psyche. And from what I hear, this is a very similar character to his other Category 3 splat-o-rama, THE UNTOLD STORY (aka HUMAN MEAT PIES) so I guess director HERMAN YAU must have needed that extra helping of Mr. Wong to satisfy his cravings for sheer nausea.

Now as close minded as this may sound (I'm usually NOT like this), no matter what this actor has done in the past (co-starred in such hits as THE MISSION, the YOUNG AND DANGEROUS series, and A MAN CALLED HERO) or what he plans to do in the future, he'll always be that same sorry, nasty piece of shit "meat fucker" that we got to see here. And don't ask about the "meat fucking" either, you'll just have to watch that sickening scene for yourself. But, ya know, if you really think about it, my statement only flatters Mr. Wong in his acting ability because if he's able to provoke that kind of reaction from a viewer, especially one as jaded as I am, it means he's really got that "magic touch", I suppose.

Anyway, this movie has a pretty simple premise for a story though, supra-degenerate Wong plays a derranged serial killer who flees Hong Kong after commiting multiple murders and ends up contracting the Ebola Virus during his brief hideout in Africa. How did he get the virus, you ask? Well, what better way than to rape a poor native girl who's been infected and has passed out in the wilderness. He spots her and quickly takes sexual liberties with the lass before she can wake up. He then gets the disease when she goes into convulsions and spits vomit into his face. She tenses up (with the grip of the death nerve) so he's forced to bash her head in with a large rock while screaming, "Gimme back my dick!". Yup, as I said before, this man is totally without any sort of morals or scupples. So after comitting several new murders in Africa, he returns to Hong Kong with some stolen cash to start all over again. Now, he's spreading the deadly virus (which, by the way, doesn't kill him, he's the new host) by serving food to the public, through the joys of prostitution, murdering anyone that bothers him, and however else he can get away with it. The sky's the limit when it comes to the depths of onscreen outrage that's thrown at us in this flick.

But, unfortunately, this same appealing insanity that I had hoped to witness, actually kinda ruined the movie for me. I wasn't offended at what was happening. I simply found myself laughing, trying to guess what the next nastiest thing he could do would be. And that, in my opinion, is the ultimate downfall for this despicable Chinese Category 3 shocker. I quickly forgot that the film should be disturbing in it's presentation of absolute human wickedness and saw it as somewhat of a slapstick and downright silly waste of a potentially fantastic idea which is really a shame because I had such high hopes for this lowdown, sucker-punching sleazer. Now, don't get me wrong, there's enough "unspeakable acts of exaggerated revulsion" to go around and you'll see things that no should ever have to see (whether it's fictitious or not) but I felt this entire experience was lost in the extremely over-the-top, almost comedic antics of the films's "bad guy". Oh well...

HUMAN PORK CHOP

Well now, I'm just not too sure what to make of this movie. It's another one of those heart-pounding, bile-churning, vomit-inducing Oriental Category 3 "BODY HORROR" flicks and it's aim is to inflict as much pain as possible to the victim of the movie... as well as the viewer.

Director BENNIE CHAN got it going right from the start though. The Hong Kong police bust in, find the boiled remains of the deceased victim in question, and nab the suspected evil-doers (led by the bloodthristy pimp Hok, perfectly played by actor WAYNE LAI). So through their confessions, the tragic story is now told to us. It's a sobbering, very powerful film with the subject matter being of the most extreme in nature.

I will say that I do really LOVE the name of the movie but watching it is, indeed, a totally different disgusting animal altogether. It's not nearly as graphic in it's malicious realism as the popular Japanese snuff-wannabe series, GUINEA PIG, but it's pretty damn painful punishment to view none-the-less. Yet I suppose that if you're a true sadist, then you're into seeing a group of some really unlikable people (let's do this in degrees shall we) kidnap, mistreat, humiliate, degrade, torment, hurt, beat, burn, torture, murder, and finally mutilate another human being for a hour and a half, then this just might be your cup of tea. It wasn't mine at the time. And the toilet scene was almost enough to send me spewing chunks just from simply watching it, no smell or touch needed. FUCK! It's something I can NEVER "un-see" and really made me wonder why I ever wanted to watch this filthy mess to begin with. Those horrid scenes of feces eating lingered in my mind LONG after the film had actually ended. EMILY KWAN, you're certainly an actress that deserves a Golden Dragon (the Chinese equivalent of an Oscar Award) because you made it all seem so damn real from the first beating, to the "human plunger" scene, and right down to the final inhuman violation and ultimate visceration of your body.

And believe it or not, they say that this film (along with two others, entitled THERE'S A SECRET IN MY SOUP and THE UNTOLD STORY aka HUMAN MEAT PIES) is based on an actual true crime event in Chinese history (known as the "Hello Kitty Murder") so that makes it even that much worse and just goes to show you how wickedly perverse and evil some people can really be. And that, my friends, just might be the greatest horror of them all.

HORRIBLE HIGH HEELS

Yup, I know you're probably wondering about the name. And nope, it's NOT a transvestite or homosexual film! No chicks with dicks here. It's just more of that wacky self-destructive fun from the Asian "BODY HORROR" genre. Nicknamed TRIPLE H (no, not the wrestler either) is Category 3 at it's BEST (or WORST, whichever the case may be).

It's ingrediants are: one part porn movie wanna-be, one part Kung-Fu Theatre, one part badly acted B action flick, and one part rawness similar to the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Well, with all that, how the hell can you go wrong?! Oh, it finds a way, trust me.

Basic storyline... a group of small time gangsta's (and some of the ugliest Chinese men you'll ever see on screen too) supply a local shoe making store with a fantastic new line of special shoe leather. The reason it's so smooth and easy to work with is because it's made from human skin! Yes, that's right. These thugs will make anyone a potential victim but they prefer young men and women. Their skin is softer and more elastic, I suppose. So watch out, if they catch ya, they'll rape ya (if you're female, that is), they'll kill ya, cut ya up, and skin ya for shoe leather. But not only that, there's other scenes a-plenty of violent murder, graphic mutilation, exploitation of women, explicit sexual deviance, and horribly foul behavior that can ONLY be seen as totally vile, totally loathsome, and just down right nasty (depending on your own personal tastes in Oriental sleeze)!

I believe there was some sort of a love story hidden in this mess somewhere but after seeing the things that I saw, I forgot all about it. I remember one scene in particular that involves a picture of a woman's face (with the mouth cut out) taped to a live duck, ass-end up. Now I'll let your imagination fill in the blanks of that story. And one thing I just couldn't quite understand about one other scene, if you love someone, why would you want to urinate all over them the first chance you get to have them alone to yourself?

Like I said before, just plain nasty. It really makes you worry about their way of thinking for them to make trash such as this. And if they're not careful, movies like this could give China a really bad name. Are you listening, CHOW CHEUNG?!

THERE IS A SECRET IN MY SOUP

Here's yet another "BODY HORROR" tale of that terrible real life "Hello Kitty Murder" crime that took place in China. The other, more impressive, film being HUMAN PORK CHOP which I'm sure you've already read about.

This movie however, is much more slick in it's presentation of the inhuman treatment that the poor girl gets. I also believe this project must have been aimed at a larger audience because it almost seems like one big long music video of contemptable, unremorseful behavior. It really tries so hard to stay "mainstream" even though it's still about that horrible Category 3 subject matter of body mutilation and evil human behavior. It even co-stars popular "straight to video" action star, MICHAEL WONG as a detective out to solve this murder case. But again, just like the other movie, it's over an hour of mind-numbing degradation, ego-crushing humiliation, super-pain inflicting torture, and finally, the brutal murder and desecration of another human being. And no matter what I may say about it to make you think otherwise, it's not for the squimish, that's for damn sure.

Yet it is, for the lack of a better description, easier to view than the PORK CHOP since it's alittle more high gloss than the former. Or it's just the fact that I had already braced myself for what might be thrown at me this time. I can't really say for sure but let me tell you though, it DOES have it's share of nerve-rattling, soul-stealing, innocence-smashing moments that differ from the first film.

Let's see, there's a nice cheese grater to the spine scene (or as they call it, the Human Grinder), a quick pissing on the face (followed by steaming human excrement), some VERY WELCOMED nude scenes (this girl's far finer than EMILY KWAN from HUMAN PORK CHOP), a nifty knuckle busting (ouch!), and a high pressure air hose, drug induced sex scene that's just plain funny to watch.

The movie itself ISN'T funny though and if you stop to think about what you're actually seeing, you'll grab the remote and cut this sleezy mess off before it goes too far. Remember, this is still a vile and morbid display of the graphic murder of another human being even if it comes in a "not-so-serious" attempt to present itself to the audience. I would highly recommend that you find something else to watch instead and leave this one to the hardcore shock-horror viewers only!

DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS

Oh No! Not ANTHONY WONG (the demented star of EBOLA SYNDROME and THE UNTOLD STORY) in yet another Category 3 sickie?! I honestly think the man loves these kinds of films.

What kind of films, you ask?

Oh, you know, the ones that make the agruement whether it's to be considered a "movie" or just plain trashy filth intended for trashy filthy minds of trashy filthy people. The kind that has NO, and I mean, NO redeeming qualities what-so-ever at all anywhere in the movie! Those repulsive, sick, disgusting "I don't think I should be watching this... but I have to!" kind of movies. Yeah, you know, the ones we LOVE sooo much!

Well, this IS one and away we go with the review... good old, HK sleaze-ball, ANTHONY WONG plays a bumbling small town cop (he's surprisingly not the "bad guy" this time around) who's trying to figure out the excessively moist murder of a local family. Come to find out, it was the daughter (actress LILY CHUNG), who had been beaten, raped, and blackmailed by her father (this actor's portrail of the totally wacko fella is just outrageous and probably the only real shining part of the whole film). And after witnessing what exactly happened (as it's told through her confession), I can say they all pretty much had it coming to 'em!

But unfortunately, even with these graphic scenes of sadistic carnage, the movie itself is pretty lame with lots of bad acting, lots of bad slapstick, lots of terrible music, lots of nothing happening in the first hour, and it's only the actual story that she tells that has the "juicy" parts like lots of gratuitous nudity, lots of softcore sex, lots of exaggerated inhuman violence, and lots of that lovely red substance that shows up so well on white.

But be honest, just admit it, that's why you're here in the first place, right? So, stay awake through the first half (I know it'll be hard to do) and you'll see just what happens when a father and daughter relationship goes sour (the Hong Kong way, that is).

RED TO KILL

Wow! Again, I ask myself why the hell I watch this stuff?!

I mean, from my experiences so far, I should know better but damn it, it always seems to start the same way. I get alittle nervous at the beginning. It's that uneasy, quizzy sensation that creeps up from your bowels when the movie first starts. Because no matter how well you think you've prepared yourself, you NEVER really know for sure what to expect, or whether or not you're going to see something that you shouldn't when it comes to these vile Chinese Category 3 chunkblowing displays of moral debasement. And this movie is certainly one of those unredeemable, wretched messes that no one should like to watch, or lord forbid, find enjoyable. Oh, but that's exactly why we LOVE them so much in the first place! But this one wasn't so much shocking to me as it was just plain sleazy. It's the corruption and perversion of innocence in this flick that causes that awful scratching at your principles of what's right and wrong, or at least, it should.

Why, you ask?

Well, most of the movie takes place in a shelter for mentally retarded young people so the subject matter alone could easily get completely out of control very quickly if you think about all the wonderful possibilities that a creative sicko-twisted mind could come up with. It also stars LILY CHUNG as Ming Ming, yup, you know her all too well. She's the same poor girl who was tormented and repeatedly raped by her father in another supra-sleazy Chinese C3 taboo-trasher entitled DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS. I will give her credit though, she's NOT afraid to snatch her clothes off and perform a mock rape scene in a very visually disturbing, almost pornographic way.

So with depraved shit like that going for it, what's the movie about you're wondering... it tells the story of an insane mental shelter super-intendent who, whenever he sees the color red on clothes (especially girl's panties), he goes totally bonkers and KILLS and RAPES (usually in THAT order too) the woman or young girl wearing it.

Yes, I know what you're thinking, I thought the same thing, this is NOT a nice movie and for fuck's sake, why am I watching it?!

But alas, it's not really his fault (or so society would tell us). When he was young, he and his brother witnessed their mother having sex with a strange man and when their father caught her in the act, she killed him with a meat clever. Enraged, she went on to chop up his little brother and ends up killing herself as well, splashing WHAT all over the place? That red, red blood, of course. Hence the name of the movie and why he goes stupid kill-crazy when he sees it.

And in the end, it all gets surprisingly real damn moist and just about everyone gets fucked up some kinda bad. So, all in all, a repulsive idea for a film that shouldn't have ever been made with scenes of detailed filth for which there is no remorse or forgiveness for. The shower scene after retarded Ming Ming's first rape where she tries to "clean" her "dirtied" sexual body parts with a razor knife comes to mind first. Simply nauseating, sickeningly foul, morally-offensive stuff indeed.

But ya know, if you really think about it, the whole exploitive nature of the Asian Horror-Shock Cinema just wouldn't be the same without these rare, uncompromising gems of celluloid obscenities.

THE ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA

Well, you can guess from the title that it's gonna be a horror movie, but what does that really mean to us... oh, it's gonna be another of those wonderful Chinese Category 3 flicks that dish out a heaping helping of explicit rape sex scenes, colorfully crimson covered outrageous gore, and loads of that eye-pleasing exploitation and vividly violent abuse towards women that we have come to love and desperately expect to see in the "Shock Cinema of Asia". Ah, it just warms the heart, doesn't it?!

Anyway, this tale of Chinese supernatural spookiness stars the enchanting ELLEN CHAN (man-o-man, would she please do porn!) and LILY CHUNG (that poor tormented sweetheart from RED TO KILL and DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS) as hapless victims (once again) caught up in a mysterious web of chaotic black magic and supra-creative cult style killings. May's (ELLEN CHAN) boyfriend, Bon and his buddies travel from Hong Kong to Thailand while on vacation. There they get mixed up with some local gang action during their stop at a casino and have to make a break for it into the countryside. After loosing the persuing gang members, they stumble upon a practicing warlock who's about to do battle with a rival wizard. The two fight it out and in a scene that has to be witnessed to be fully appreciated for it's truely exploitive nature (the rival wizard has sexual intercourse with his female cohort while floating through the air to activate his black magic spells). But when it's all said and done, our group's buddy warlock defeats the bad wizard and the bunch celebrate. During this time, the warlock's daughter meets and falls in love with May's boyfriend. He declines her sexual advances (something I certainly couldn't do) so she convinces her father to place a spell on him so they can get together and make babies. Well, the spell goes bad, actually affecting his 3 friends instead, and they all rush about to get alittle nookie from the warlock's daughter. And you guessed it, she's violated and raped repeatedly and finally manages to get herself impaled on a knife while trying to defend her private no-no spots from prying paws. As expected, the warlock becomes enraged and commences to off the group one by one in niffty, super juicy, cult-like magical ways. One of the sorry-ass bastards is forced to feed on his own flesh, cannibal style, and ends up eating himself to death (literally that is) as another has nails forced into his face and skull (ala Clive Barker's Hellraiser pain-addict Cenobite Pinhead) and not to mention, one of them is cursed to see people as undead monsters that promptly causes him to slay everyone he meets and in the end, himself as well. But that's not enough for our pissed off warlock. He has to make things even by raping Bon's girlfriend May, and again, in another enjoyable exploitive sex scene, we see the deliciously beautiful ELLEN CHAN hoisted high into the air, stripped of her clothes (finally!), and raped by a semi-transparent ghost-like figure over and over.

Needless to say, it's great mental mayhem, murderous fun, and lovely deviance that ONLY the Chinese can come up with. One last example to prove this point is when the warlock curses one of the guys for being a "dick head". The poor fella's head actually turns into a giant penis (with eyes and a mouth, no less) and he runs around pissing from the top of it when he gets frightened.

Hmmm... it must something in the water over there because you WON'T see these kinds of things anywhere else. I'd be willing to bet you on that too!

DR. LAMB

Yes, oh God, yes! The ever popular Chinese Category 3 sickness strikes again!

I was caught totally off-guard with this one, let me tell ya! Not only am I surprised that the main star, SIMON YAM (of countless notable Hong Kong action/crime films) ever found work after his over-the-top, shockingly convincing role as the movie's serial killer but it was my first (and hopefully last!) exposure to a sub-genre of true preversion called "de-breasting", where the female victim has her, well, you know, her upper body glands removed and kept as a trophy. It's terrible stuff indeed that certainly was NEVER intended for human consumption. There shouldn't even be a name or classification for this kind of awful, disgustingly rotten inhuman behavior on display. And if you can believe it, DANNY LEE (the good guy cop from JOHN WOO's classic CHOW YUN FAT hitman masterpiece, THE KILLER) actually directed and co-starred (as the detective in charge of the case) in this loathsome exhibition of mentally maiming material.

As I said, surprisingly SIMON YAM stars as Lin, a seemingly average fella that grew up being beaten by his stepmom. One fateful rainy night though, it finally dawned on him... don't take any shit from women, especially women that are considered "bad". Years pass, and working as a taxi driver, he's forced to keep his violent urges towards women under wraps. But again, as a bad rain storm hits during his shift and a drunk female party-goer gets upset with him and slaps him, he ultimately breaks down and goes completely nuts. He strangles her and brings the dead body home for "further exploration". After "playing" with her for awhile, he decides to dispose of the corpse before someone catches him with it. He snatches up a meat cleaver and goes to work. But, an unexpected accident happens, the cleaver blade breaks on the bones. What to do, what to do? He promptly goes out and buys a powersaw to finish the job. Brains, bladders, and bones in bags, he gets rid of the evidence without anyone noticing. Well, as most serial killers find out, it was really alot of fun but the next one has to be done alittle more efficiently. So, four or five ladies later, he's got it down to a science. Strangle them around the neck with wire, making sure not to damage the body and face too much as he enjoys filming them in sexually provacative and pleasing positions when he gets them back home. Once there, cover the floor with plastic and have fun with the body which includes such wonderfully entertaining hobbies as necrophilia (the term for sexual intercourse with a dead body), amputation of the limbs and private parts, dissection of the woman's internal workings, and puppeteering the corpse with string to humor himself while howling out like a dog, half naked.

Damn, Simon, you went all out, buddy!

Outrageous, vomit-inducing viewing even for jaded fans of hardcore shock imagery involving gratuitous "splatter in-your-face" bloodletting, excessive x-rated violence, and sex-related sleaze such as myself. I'm not lying either! The scene where Lin drops the freshly removed, quivering fleshy mammary from his first "de-breasting" victim into a jar of water was quite a sight to behold (one I'm not likely to ever forget) and nearly had me running to the toilet to spew.

As I said before in my earlier review of another Category 3 chunkblower entitled HORRIBLE HIGH HEELS, movies like this could easily give China a bad name! Watch out for this one! I've warned you.

VISITOR Q

Some people say that Japanese wacko-director TAKASHI MIIKE's "hit ya below the belt" uber-taboo sleazefest, chunkblow-a-matic VISITOR Q film is "art" or "simply amazing" but I just didn't "get" it. Now I LOVE his other films such as AUDITION (his BEST film, in my opinion), DEAD OR ALIVE, FUDOH, and not to mention ICHI THE KILLER but VQ just didn't "DO" to me what I wanted it to "DO".

Don't get me wrong, I truely ADORE those Oriental C3 flicks that shock, stimulate, scare, and nauseate the viewer but maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind when I watched this movie or the fact that I don't dare claim to understand the Japanese way of thinking but VISITOR Q went completely "over my head". If there's some sort of deeper meaning here, please someone enlighten me. All I have to say is that it's downright, no better yet, it's just outright plain NASTY! Jeezus Christ on the Cross... I'll NEVER look at a glass of milk the same way again.

"What's it about?"

The hell if I know! But I have to admit that it even stunned a jaded film fan like myself somewhat more than I expected. Was it the "porn style" father/daughter incest? I don't know. Was it the malicious beatings that the mother took from her son? I don't know. Was it the wanton necrophilia with the dead girl that oozed feces? I don't know. Was it the breast milk squirtings? I don't know. The pissings? The anal rapes? The beatdowns? The drug use? The sadomasochistic prostitution? The body dismemberments? I really just don't know.

But all that wonderfully sickening material set aside, VISITOR Q is, in my opinion, a pretty lousy movie. For the most part, TAKASHI MIIKE is usually more subtle when it comes to the "nastiness" (or as I like to call them "Takashisms") in his work but this flick is simply a gratuitous "Throw It In Your Face" spectacle of dirty, nasty, raunchy scenes which overall, didn't really work well because it WANTED you to be grossed out and non-caring from the start, no if's, and's, or but's about it. I think we've come to expect better from Mr. Miike though.

Now I know what you're thinking, what about ICHI THE KILLER?! It's right there and "In Your Face" too but I personally prefer it when he sneaks it in there on you when you're least expecting it. The quick stunning shock value is always the best seat in his movies. And VQ could have been that way.

Honestly, about half way through the movie, I was just about to ready to call it quits and shut the damn thing off for good. But after smoking a cigarette, I ventured back to the tv set and decided to finish it up. And surprisingly, it DID get better in the last half with the nipple squeezings and necrosex. In fact, it almost reached that, oh you know, THAT point of celluloid sleaze appeal that we all love so much. It's the part where you know you should stop watching but somewhere, deep down, you just gotta see what happens next.

But all in all, I was ready for it to end. And that's a shame because, so far, I loved Miike's other films to date. Maybe I was expecting a more "movie-type" movie instead of what I got so perhaps a second viewing of the flick might change my opinion. But then again, I'm really NOT looking forward to rewatching VISITOR Q anytime soon, except for maybe showing it to someone who is an unprepared first time Miike viewer. Oh, just imagine the mental-crippling and nauseous shockwaves it'll cause to an Asian film newbie...

Good stuff mate!
I had "Human Pork Chop" on a HK DVD, but it was so obviously cut (obvious jumps in the toilet scene and the dismemberment sequence) I sold it on.

Was "Dr Lamb" uncut?? As far as i know this is REALLY hard to find fully uncut and then I don't think it's subbed. i know the HK DVD is cut.

Litlte story about "Dr Lamb" actually...I was in Hong Kong the week this (and "The Cat"..a supernatural flick I also checked out) was released at the cinema. I went to see it one afternoon in a cinema almost empty. Sadly even this initial cinema print had also been cut.

I reviewed "Red to Kill" as well...RED TO KILL
Ben Ng was an absolutely psychotic force of nature!

I thought "Visitor Q" was excellent. It actually showed up, seemingly uncut, on the UK Sci-Fi Channel!

Some more "CAT III"/Extreme Asian goodness.....
CHINESE TORTURE CHAMBER
CHINESE TORTURE CHAMBER 2
ESCAPE FROM BROTHEL
ATROCITY
CENTIPEDE HORROR
