With all the brouhaha kicked up over Miike's banned episode of MASTERS OF HORROR it's once more occured to me I've gone too long without watching any of his movies. Even though I've meant to for some time.
So, I'm interested in what those of you who have seen his movies have thought of them. Is the super-prolific Miike really all that? Or is he just plain overrated? I've been meaning to see ICHI THE KILLER since I heard about it. It just really sounds like my type of movie. And VISTOR Q. It's fucked up, right? But is that good fucked up or bad fucked up? ICHI, VISITOR Q, HOTK, THE AGITATOR, and a couple of others all made in the year 2001 alone. That is ridiculously productive. So what am I missing? What should I watch? Is there any of his movies that just blow your mind? Or should I just skip it all together? I must be the only one among you that's yet to see a movie of his, so you're the guys, and gals, to ask... |

pretty much any horror director who can get his work banned is on the right track as far as im concerned. Mad genious

Out of Miike's catalog of films, I've seen AUDITION, FUDOH, ICHI THE KILLER, VISITOR Q, GOZU, DEAD OR ALIVE trilogy, and GRAVEYARD OF HONOR. Now, in viewing these films, I've come to the conclusion that Miike does deserve the title of mad genius because everyone of his film have found a way to shock and disturb me. Now that has got to count for something, especially in today's world where all of us are viewing things through jaded glasses.
