Many of you have probably noticed that I haven't been updating the site much this past week. Sorry about that. I've been working on a project that I felt needed to get done and so everything else kind of fell by the wayside. But I'm back now, and with the news that a certain vampire slayer, not Buffy, will be heading to the small screen
Moviehole reports that BLADE will be turned into a television series to air on cable outfit SpikeTV. Spike was initially set up as the answer to Lifetime and Oxygen, a channel with mainly male-oriented programming. But despite catching on, it strayed far from its initial purpose. An early push of animated shows like GARY THE RAT tanked and the channel has had most of its viewers by showing reruns of CSI and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. More embarassing, execs discovered that their male-oriented base was actually split pretty evenly between men and women most of the time and during certain parts of the day, more women than men were watching SpikeTV by a large margin. That's what happens when you show REALTV and reruns of MACGYVER folks. So now, Spike is trying to keep its audience while expanding its initial male-oritented programming stance. This means lots of car and wrestling shows, sketch comedy and also some original programming of which BLADE should be a flagship show. "The action-adventure genre is largely ignored in today's television landscape, and we know it is something that our male viewers really want," SpikeTV and MTV networks honcho Doug Herzog said. "BLADE is a great movie franchise with an established brand that men already recognize and identify with." David S. Goyer will executive produce the two hour pilot episode. Wesley Snipes is not expected to reprise his role as Blade, especially after the last installment of the series, the disastrous BLADE: TRINITY. No word on what effect the TV show will have on the film franchise or when the BLADE TV show will premiere on Spike. Hmm. Spike - BLADE. BLADE - Spike. Probably just a coincidence, right? ---------- Comment on this article in our [ www.horrorexpress.com/forums ]!
