It's another remake, folks. But one that might not be as bad as you would think. After all, HOUSE OF MAX was a remake of the classic 1930s film, MYSTERY IN THE MAX MUSEUM. And now it looks like it will be remade again, presumably for October 2004.

Dark Castle has tapped writers Chad and Chris Hayes to pen a remake of the classic film. This marks a return to the original idea behind Dark Castle, which was remake of the old William Castle films of the 1950s and 1960s. They started out with HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (which I atually enjoyed) and THIRTEEN GHOSTS. But in 2002, they unexpectedly strayed from the formula with the original film GHOST SHIP. They continue that trend this year with GOTHIKA, a film that sounds better all the time. Although the original HOUSE OF WAX employed many gimmicks that Castle would have been fond of, he was not involved in the making of the original. Castle's first major horror offering was 1958's MACABRE, five years after HOUSE OF WAX.

In the original HOUSE OF WAX, Vincent Price played Henry Jarrod, a disfigured killer who put his victims on hisplay in his macabre wax museum. The classic was one of the first films shot in 3-D. Director André De Toth couldn't see the results of his work, however, since he was blind in one eye. There is no word on whether the new version will be in 3-D or not.
