Default Paranormal Activity 4

I know I'm in the minority around here but I personally love these films. Simple premise, no over blown budgets, minimal camera work and some good ol' playing with the audiences fears sets these films well above the standard of dross we've been getting lately.

Just saw the trailer for the 4th one and it looks like this will be the final chapter, if not in the series then certainly for the Katie/Hunter story. But as always with the PA films what you see in the trailers will, more than likely, not feature in the film itself.

You can check out the trailer here

"Professor! Can't you examine my brain without removing it?"

"Yes, easily."

I'll watch it, probably be disappointed, but I do admit that I find them oddly addictive.

I was hooked as soon as I saw the first one. Loved everything about it and the sequels didn't disappoint either. Really looking forward to this one

I've only seen the first one and it really didn't do it for me. Same as BLAIR WITCH.

POV/Found Footage-wise I love REC, and didn't mind CLOVERFIELD.

I guess that's because there's just a hell of a lot more going on in the latter cases.

I've yet to see PA2 yet. After PA I'm tentative.

I am shocked by the lack of enthusiasm for such a brilliant film and series

Jk Each to their own but until some decent horrors start coming soon the PA series is all I have to attend my horror needs

PA let down by the toally unbeleivable performance by the girl. Altho the bed scene towards the end I agree having watched again is a redeeming feature.

I loved Blair Witch tho. It genuinely hints at that cosmic Lovecraftian thing for me. And the girl (Heather?) is the absolute antithesis of the girl in PA - totally believable in her terror

See I actually really like Katie Featherston's performance in PA but I just want to slap the girl in BWP because she just annoys me. I liked BWP when I first saw it but on repeat viewings I found I liked it less and less and let's not even get started on the sequel, god that was awful

I actually didn't have a massive problem with the chick in PA. But the guy got on my tits (and I only felt half of that was the character/intentional).

The (hysteria of the) BWP girl I disliked before I'd even seen the film. Way too many promo spots showing "that scene" (her with the torch). It's like, if you see anything too much it grates. BWP as a military torture technique.

Sorry Raven but I thought PA was utterly dreadful. But having said that I didn't like Insidious either & most people did.

Way too much mucus in that scene for my liking!

Oh I hated Insidious with a passion a truly terrible film. Started off well but then disappeared up it's own arse into the realms of stupidity.

Exactly. It was like "Ok what the actual fuck is this? Is it a ghost film? Is it Nightmare on Elm Street or is it bloody Star Wars?"

Hah. Snot is never a good thing. Though Russell Crowe did an excellent snot-scene in GLADIATOR when he returns home to find...

I guess the latter half was an attempt to move beyond PA's "some people get scared in a house". But yeah, it just didn't work. It was like some nutso fever dream (except not in a good Dario Argento-way). It really came off as cheap and amateurish to me.

One of the parts I liked was the two "ghostbusters" who didn't get along. I'd have much rather seen a (completely) different film with them in than what we got.

Part of my problem with these films is they really stretch the "for gods sake, get the fuck out of the house" way too far. At least INSIDIOUS avoided it with a clever "it's the kid that's haunted" angle. And I felt it also had atmosphere.

Well in fairness to PA it had the same angle. It was Katie who was being haunted and not the house. I thought Insidious started off really well one of my fav scenes was when the camera pans along the hallway and past the kids bedroom and in the netting you see a really creepy face. It had a lot of potential that was ruined by a "let's cram loads of shit in" attitude and none of it worked together
