Haven't seen Straw Dogs remake yet. Loved the orginal. Not looking forward to the Thing remake (or prequel, which is more or less the same thing) though; the original is a perfect film.

i agree the original cant be touched, but i recon this one will be ok. the animaltronics in the original were amazing, i recon they will use alot of cgi which will ruin it for me.

Yeah the overuse of CGI is my fear too. The Rob Bottin monster designs in the original were so inspired and original. A seminal film for sure!

usually I do not watch horror remakes anymore. The last decent one was the 'I Spit On Your Grave'. Wooden mentioned to me that 'Straw Dogs' remake is pretty solid so will check out at some point.

The best remake by far is John Carpenter's 'The Thing'.

The Thing pretty hard to beat.

The Fly surely next on the list of great remakes.

And the Blob from late 80's underated. Incidentally, caught a little of the orignal Blob other night. Wow, even Steve McQueen's acting in that is painful! Great B movie!

Bugger, keep forgetting 'The Fly' and 'The Blob', love those two as well.

There's a remake of Carrie in the works. I tend to think most remakes are unnecessary, unless the movie is about 30 odd years old. I guess Carrie falls into the category, but the first one hit the nail on the head. Wondering if it will be botched or not.

Also, I've heard that there is going to be a remake of IT but I'm not entirely sure when that was supposed to come out. Heard about it a few years ago.

Like you say, I think Carrie is pretty damn perfect as a film, wonder why bother remaking. IT on the other hand might be a good idea.

Yeah....IT wasn't bad in about the first half, but boy the big climax sucked haha. It was fairly faithful to the book, at least.

Agreed. The SFX is the first thing to improve on. I liked the actors performances in IT, they weren't too bad really, and it is faithful to the book, plus the scope of the mini series benefited such a long story, which a film is going to struggle with I suppose.

I remember seeing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Shit the bed...best excuse for deliberately setting the San Andreas Fault off for the big one I've ever seen. Goodbye Hollywood! We'll not miss ya!

The Evil Dead remake looks surprisingly good going by the trailer. Removing the silly/comical element and making it a straight horror could really do the film justice.

As much as I loved the original I did feel it could have done without the silly comedy moments and the plasticine SFX, although fun to watch, did detract slightly from the horror.

EDIT:

I loved the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Jackie turned out a fantastic performance as Freddy and I really got into the story purely on his performance. Something that I never got with the original, I was never drawn in by any of the NOES films.

"Professor! Can't you examine my brain without removing it?"

"Yes, easily."
