Styg, I'd definitely recommend it. Just saw it myself for the first time (it was made in 2003 apparently). It's called Frankstein: Birth of a Monster. If you have Virgin OnDemand you've got until Sunday to watch it. Or it should be popping up on IPlayer here.

And wow did it shock me how death stalked her throughout her life. By the age of 23 three of her four children had died, as well as Shelley. Even her mother died soon after she was born.

It just goes to show that circumstances are the mother of (literary) invention. Sure she had the literary/intellectual pedigree of her mother and father. But I think without the circumstances of her life, environment, and the time, Frankenstein's monster would never have been born.

Been viewing some of the recent horrors & remakes:
Final Destination 5 (As of now, I prefer part 4 to this. Maybe I need to review pt.5 because pt.4 was bad enough)
Fright Night remake
Shark Night 3D

Didn't Fright Night come out not long ago? And I've not been a big fan of Final Destination...seems kind of silly even as horror movies go. Still, it's better than some of the stuff floating around out there haha

Yeah, I like the FD series. The parts 4-5 were kind of a let down. The 5th one was in my opinion worse than the 4th. Fright Night is somewhat new, it came out in like Aug. 16th or near that date.

Watched Aliens again. Not seen it for a few years. No match for the first film.

I haven't seen Shark Night 3D, so is it really good? Is it pretty similar to JAWS or not?

Similar to Jaws? Not really: Jaws classic, Shark Night 3D bollocks.

I might watch some horror later. Might dig up some eighties flicks, or some old school fifties monster movies, haha

I watched The River Killer and The Entitled which both had Ray Liotta in them. Both were really good in my opinion

I agree the first is the best. Particularly if we are talking "horror movies", as the 2nd verges heavily in the Sci-Fi and Action genres.

But I personally think it's not far behind. If I gave ALIEN 10, I'd give ALIENS 9 or 9.5. It's a really well executed, engrossing film for me. And benefits from, rather than rehashing the original, going its own way.

How weird does that Newt opening seem now though, after all the years were the introduction of her character was about an hour in.

Yeah, Aliens good. Could have been a lot worse. Cameron's earlier films were great - what the hell happened later on?

What's that about the Newt thing, John? Was it re-edited??

In the uncut version the introduction to Newt is held back like an hour

"Professor! Can't you examine my brain without removing it?"

"Yes, easily."

I just watched Paranormal Activity for our movie club thread next week. Did it last night...but I won't say anymore until it's time for the discussion, haha.

I'm thinking of going on a movie binge today...or at least watch a couple as time permits :P. Netflix throws a lot of horror movies (of varying quality) so I might pick something from there. Sometimes a really bad movie can be as entertaining as a really good one, haha
