In one of the best-known roles as a police officer out of his depth among pagans on a remote Scottish island in the cult film "The Wicker Man". He died at 79, and he was survived by his wife Michelle and four children.
May he rest in peace, and he will be always missed.

Rest in Peace Edward.
I was always a great fan of yours and enjoyed watching you for many, many hours. Through every episode of THE EQUALIZER (more than once) and the definitive British horror movie THE WICKER MAN, to more obscure roles. Great, great actor. I'll miss seeing him. (Thanks for the post GM) |

I must join you in your homage to this wonderful actor. I don't recall how far back my admiration of Edward Woodward goes. Perhaps "The Wicker Man" in the Seventies was my introduction to him. I certainly was a fan of "The Equalizer", from beginning to end. Perhaps the family favorite was the one in which he had a bad cold and a bothersome family taking shelter in his apartment. Michael Nickles, one of my favorite obscure actors, made his acting debut in the "Joyride" episode, co-starring with future star Christian Slater. (Mr. Nickles wrote/directed the horror film "XII" (2008).)
I just posted this image on a thread about the remake of "TWM", but I'll do it again, as this is a scene most often used in fiilmbooks though, in the movie, it lasts for a brief time~the Hand of Glory: ![]() RIP Edward Woodward. |
