Order The Tenement Today!!
See what the critics have been talking about.
It's a "horror movie made for fans by a fan."
LOCAL HORROR FILM CAST TO DO IN STORE APPEARANCE AT CORTLANDT MANOR (NY) VIDEO STORE
Independent horror movie writer/director Glen Baisley (Light & Dark Productions), 32, a lifelong Lake Peekskill, resident and 1989 graduate of Lakeland High School, will have his first real taste of success when his latest movie “The Tenement” gets released worldwide on DVD/VHS on April 13th via distributor Brain Damage films.
“The Tenement” is his third feature length movie shot entirely on digital video primarily in the surrounding areas of Peekskill, Putnam Valley, and Somers. It is a new twist on classic material from the horror genre that critics have cited as being a “horror film by a horror fan for horror fans.” The story spans two decades and tells the stories of four individuals who live in a seedy apartment building. A large part of the cast is composed of local talent from Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties. Like the works of Stephen King, his movies exist within the same universe and focus mainly on the happenings in the fictitious town of Fairview Falls where killers, creatures and other nasties run amok on a frequent basis.
To celebrate the event, Baisley, cast and crew will be doing a signing on Saturday, April 17th from 12 to 4 PM at Joey’s Movies (in Toddville Plaza) located in Cortlandt Manor, NY at 2141 Crompond Road (Rt. 202).
The movie will be available at Joey’s Movies for purchase or rental. There will be free signings, prizes and giveaways while supplies last. Joey’s Movies will be the future site of a scene that will be included in Baisley’s next movie entitled “Fairview Falls” which is scheduled to shoot this summer. A portion of the proceeds from copies of the movie sold at the signing will be donated to Putnam Valley Arts because Baisley feels that “it is a valuable under-funded resource for culturally enriching the community.”
About “The Tenement”
The Tenement won the “Achievement Award for Feature Horror” at the 2003 Putnam County Film & Video Festival. This marks his third award for his series of movies. “The Tenement” was also a headliner at the Blood Fest 2003 festival held at the historic Darress Theater in Boonton, New Jersey.
Brian Spears (G & S Effects Co.), a Somers resident, was in charge of the special make-up effects for the movie. His company just won the award for “Best Make-up Effects” for his work on “Flesh for the Beast” at the 2003 New York City Horror Film Festival.
About Glen Baisley and Light & Dark Productions
Glen Baisley created Light & Dark Productions in an attempt to infuse new life into what he refers to as an “otherwise stagnant industry that is flooded with shameless rip-offs.” In addition to directing, producing and writing movies, he freelances as a videographer and web designer. Baisley started his career in the late eighties hosting/producing local access shows in which he received a number of community awards. He has been actively involved with Putnam Valley Arts since 2001, where he was recently appointed to the board. He now heads up a local film group called The Mid-Hudson Film & Artists Group that was created as a means for local artists and filmmakers to network.
Baisley’s work has been featured in the New York Times and the world’s biggest horror magazine, Fangoria Magazine. He has a growing fan base around the world. He hopes that viewers will get the underlying message that motivates his work. “I write movies to scare and entertain but with some social consciousness. I feel that too many people are in a state of denial about the horrors that go on around us everyday. How many people sleep with their doors unlocked with the ‘it couldn’t happen to me’ mentality? Hopefully my movies will make people take proactive steps to prevent such atrocities.”
