I love survival horror games on the consoles. They scare me more than any film I know. Here are the best.

Top 10

Resident Evil
Silent Hill
Resident Evil Outbreak
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Silent Hill 3
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Silent Hill
Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare
Eternal Darkness

Best of the rest

Curse: The Eye Of Isis
Clock Tower 3
Clock Tower
Dino Crisis
Alone In The Dark
Obscure
Ghosthunter
Onimusha Warlords

Hi Grace.
Great to see another fan of Alone in the Dark. I cut my teeth on that game back when it was originally released. I think it can truly be seen as the grand daddy for the whole horror game genre. Without it would we have had Resident Evil, let alone Silent Hill?

Being a long time Lovecraft fan I just loved the way it was used in Alone in the Dark. And the whole "walking round a house of Lovecraftian horrors" was almost identically mirrored in the first Alone in the Dark.
I might even get around to trying out Alone in the Dark again, for nostalgia factor. If it would run on modern PC's that is.

Good to see you here. And I'll check out your boards soon.
I've been meaning to get back into the whole Survival Horror Genre, and in particular the Silent Hill Series (of which I have played none).

The Silent Hill games have an extremely high fear factor in my opinon, they are brilliant, unlike resident evil (which i also love) silent hill is more about the fear rather than the action. Very good games.

Ive never played any of the Alone in the Dark games are they any good?

That definitely sounds like a game I would love. Which would be the best one to check out for someone who'd never played them before? I'm guessing the first?

They WERE very good Raven. Whether they would stand up to today's standards I'm not sure. They probably wouldn't.
The original was the real classic, and that must have been released around 10 years ago. The graphics now would be supremely lacking I would imagine. And for those that discovered the genre with Resident Evil and the like I'm sure they would probably come across as tame and uninspired.
I think without that nostalgia factor they might seem pretty terrible.

Silent Hill 2 is the best one in my opinion, but you should start with the first one to get some idea of what it's all about LOL
