[I 180w raimi I]Sam Raimi has had a very good week. Sure, there's the forward movement on that sequel about some spider guy. But I'm talking about Raimi's company Senator International, set up with Rob Tapert. More specifically, it's a great week for Ghost House Films, a company set up to handle exciting new projects in the world of horror and fantasy.
Ghost House has been developing a film called BOOGEYMAN. The film from director, Mehdi Norowzian concerns a man going back to his hometown to confront an evil force from his childhood. It was marked as the flagship production of this new company dedicated to the genre.
This week, BOOGEYMAN scored a U.S. distributor with Screen Gems, itself a subsidiary of Sony's Columbia Pictures. Screen Gems has had moderate success distributing genre films like RESIDENT EVIL, GHOSTS OF MARS, THE FORSAKEN, VAMPIRES: LOS MUERTOS and THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES.
BOOGEYMAN starts shooting in May although naturally no release date has been set.
If that weren't enough, we have yet another update from the always helpful . Ghost House also scores the rights to remake the Asian horror film, JU-ON, a.k.a. THE GRUDGE. The "grudge" of Takashi Shimizu's film refers to a supernatural force, passing from person to person and causing anger, jealousy and violent acts of rage. The film already has a sequel in its native Japan. Shimizu will handle the directing duties on the American version. RING producer Takashige Ichise will also oversee the production, as he did for the original.
Last but not least, don't forget that Ghost House Pictures is also moving forward with the film version of the acclaimed graphic novel, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. That one sent fans into a frenzy with it's tale of vampires descending on an unsuspecting town.
Ghost House looks like the real deal and we'll be looking out for future updates. Nice to see Raimi and Tapert, who started in the industry, still showing enthusiasm for the genre and giving something back.
