[I 180w ring_fingers I]If you?re a huge fan of Hideo Nakata?s original RINGU, you?re going to love this. If you?ve only seen the remake and want to dig up where it all started, you?re going to love this.

First off, don?t forget that RINGU will make it?s debut on Region 1 DVD March 11th, the same day as Gore Verbinki?s remake, THE RING. English subtitled versions of all three original RING movies are available via Tartan in the UK.

Now, an English translation of the book that started it all will finally hit the shelves. Suzuki Koji?s 1991 novel is what inspired the TV movies, the theatrical releases, the remake and everything in between. Finally, the source material has been faithfully translated from the original Japanese text. Two sequels to the book ( and separate from the filmed sequels ), THE SPIRAL and LOOP, will arrive shortly thereafter. A collection of three short stories, THE BIRTHDAY, was also written, but no news on whether the rights to that book have been purchased. Koji?s THE RING will be published by Vertical, Inc. in a hardcover edition. Suggested retail price is $24.95 in the States.

Speaking of the States, Hideo Nakata is set to make his American directorial debut with TRUE BELIEVERS, based on the novel by Doug Richardson. MGM will release the film. Here?s the plot synopsis found on the book?s jacket:

?The child the Sullivans have long prayed for will soon be theirs, thanks to a special procedure performed at a confidential Dallas clinic. But the miracle of a small life growing within Gwen Sullivan has placed her husband's destiny and her own in the murderous hands of a dark messiah. A politician on the verge of greatness and the woman he cherishes have suddenly become the pawns in a conspiracy of staggering proportions, masterminded by a condemned psychopath who plans for his last act on earth to be the total enslavement and destruction of a powerful American family.?

Sounds dramatic. Sounds complex. Sounds eerie. Sounds like exactly the type of thing Nakata can deliver. Let?s hope for the best.
