Okay all you zombie horror hounds out there, what's your favorite undead flick?
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Night of the Living Dead (1990)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Day of the Dead
Return of the Living Dead
Zombie (aka Zombi 2)
Resident Evil
Shaun of the Dead
Other (list title)
As for "Other", some choices could include Return of the Living Dead 2 or 3, Zombie Holocaust (alias Doctor Butcher MD), House of the Dead (yeah, right!), Junk, Versus, Stacy, Bio Zombie, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, Resident Evil 2, Zombie 3, or Dead Alive (alias Brain Dead).

*IMO* Dawn Of The Dead can NOT be touched...
I have never seen a better zombie movie and doubt there will ever be one of that calibur!

The original DAWN OF THE DEAD is tied with THE EXORCIST as my favorite horror film of all time, so my choice was easy.

The original Dawn of the Dead is my personal favorite. In my humble abode of West Virginia during my youth, this movie played as a Midnight Movie when I first saw it (and well after its original release). I went three consecutive weekends to see it.
I still find it bizarre this film would be remade. The 2004 version was fine, but it did little to displace or improve the original.
My second favorite zombie-flick is The Return of the Living Dead, now followed closely by Shawn of the Dead. :teeth:
Despite the lashing the film takes by fans who rightfully say its NOT a zombie film, I still enjoy 28 Days Later.
A Philosophical Question: Given the multiple deaths of Mr. Voorhees and Mr. Myers, are the Friday the 13th and Halloween franchises de facto Zombie movies?

Now this is a good idea for a Poll Steve. I've nabbed it for the front page if you don't mind. :whistling:
Personally I also would have to say the original Dawn of the Dead. It's just about perfect in every way.
I should be getting my hands on the remake pretty soon and I'm curious how it compares. I've seen the first 10 minutes and thought it made for a superb start.

They're the best ten minutes of the whole thing, John.
Actually, if you check my review (http://www.horrorexpress.com/filmreview.php?id=466), I didn't think it was that bad - just flawed.
If you want to enjoy the film more, I still strongly recommend you turn it off the second the end credits start.

Yeah, I certainly agree with ya there. DAWN 1978 is most definitely the best zombie flick there was, is, or likely to ever be. I think it's the measuring stick for every zombie movie to come as well.
I picked NIGHT 1990 as my "favorite" zombie film. I know there's a fine line between a "favorite" zombie movie and what someone would consider the "best" zombie movie. I picked NIGHT 1990 because I was soooo desperately in the mood for a good zombie fest and when I went to see it at the theatre, I was the only person in the whole damn room. I mean, once the film started, I felt like I was in the house with them. It really sucked me in and gave me a terrific viewing experience. So that's why NIGHT 1990 is my "favorite" zombie movie.

Even though I quite enjoyed 28 DAYS LATER myself, I couldn't really put it on the list for exactly the reason you mentioned. The folks in the flick aren't zombies (ie: the dead returning to life). It's still a great film and probably gave ZACK SNYDER the idea for the now infamous "running zombies" as we see in DAWN 2004.

I saw DAWN 2004 at the theatre and I didn't really enjoy it that much either. I mean, it was okay, but it JUST okay, nothing special, if that makes any sense.
I am, however, looking forward to buying the so-called "Director's Cut" on DVD. Strange thing, for me, alot of the times I see a film on the big screen and think it's just okay, I end up really liking it much more than I should when I finally get it home on DVD. UNDERWORLD is a prime example. It was simply "okay" during my first time viewing at the theatre but now I really dig watching the movie at home. It's actually gotten much better. Go figure...

Without a doubt THE greatest zombie flick of ALL time is DAY OF THE DEAD the opening sequence to it had such a great effect that it still hasn't been topped by any of the others.
DAY OF THE DEAD took a different angle than NIGHT or DAWN and that made it even more brilliant. NIGHT was the beginning and explained what was going on DAWN pretty much covered the same ground but it also did a great job of showing the effect the situation had on the survivors.
But DAY was the aftermath, the zombies had taken over completely and all hope for the human race had all but gone. And it was this change of atmosphere which made this film the best zombie flick ever!

DAY OF THE DEAD is certainly an unappreciated effort, that's for sure. I tend to find that people really like the film but don't wanna fess up to it for some reason. Strange.

I love Day of the Dead, it was just thrown together too quick, plus they didn't have enough money. However, the zombies in Day are much better than the ones in Dawn, it's just Dawn is a better movie!

Day is great!
Also, I think the Australian zombie-comedy Undead is well worth a mention! Such a funny movie!

I've heard that JEAN ROLLIN's "pesticide" zombie film, THE GRAPES OF DEATH is a pretty decent effort too.

Yes it is - kind of 28 DAYS LATER on the French countryside. It balanced that type of action with the surreal artistry of Rollin's other films.
