I hate slasher movies. Humans just aren't scary.

I just think the whole slasher movie storyline has just got way too tired. I mean, how many movies can you make that must mandatorily include:

* A group of teenagers that have done something bad that they covered up

* They all get killed one by one

* The killer must wear some kind of mask

* You're always meant to suspect one person and then it turns out to be the person you least expect

* A shameless lead up to a sequel

* All characters must be beautiful in appearance and totally blemishless, even the "nerds" or "geeks"

* A pointless sex scene that doesn't advance the plot in any way shape or form

* A stupid female main character that ALWAYS goes outside to investigate the noise even though 3 of her friends have been brutally murdered

* A stupid female main character that confronts the suspected killer, not accompanied with a large group of people which would be the SENSIBLE thing to do, but all alone in an isolated place.

I'm just sick of them. And just when i think that they can't possibly bring out yet another one, thats exactly what they do. I'm a stickler for innovation and originality, which is something NONE of those films have.

Thoughts, anyone?

I'm not a fan of that particular genre myself (Freddy, Jason, etc) but it's quite something to behold when someone gets a powerdrill crammed into their temple.

Try the Asian "Category 3" films for a change of pace. Lots of snazzy and creative dismemberments, wanton necrophilia, and a foul sub-genre of perversion called de-breasting and amputation sex. Truely sicko insane stuff indeed.

Well, I know what you mean - some slasher movies are uninteresting and boring. On the other hand I disagree with your comment on the fear factor of human beings.
In my view human beings can be much more scary than zombies, vampires, any kind of creature. It is (in a way) much more realistic to face a human with extraordinary strength, a human who seems unbeatable. Please take the "Halloween" movies as an example:
At the age of six, Michael Myers killed his sister - this can happen (and does actually happen) any day.
Then he is in a psychatry for the next nine years and flees - happens in everyday life.
Michael Myers has a certain aim and does everything in order to reach it - realistic as well.
He always appears to be not destructible - unrealistic, but (in this context) it is the pure evil that makes it possible.
I think a very good idea and well done by John Carpenter and everybody else who participated in the work.

But I agree when you mean movies like "Scream" or "I know what you did last summer".

It always depends on what you like . . . . .

I enjoy different types of films and don't think that there has to be anything new - although a creative change is a really good thing of course.

I rather like slasher movies....especially the ones from the early 80's.

And everyone will have to agree...they do have some original kills in them. :)

I dont think u can class Jason as "human" because technically he's dead so can't die again, and as for michael well those of us who have seen the entire series will know that he is pure evil.

But i agree that some slasher films are really dull and not at all scary SCREAM for example.
