I thought it was about time I posted news of the remake of Willard, the '71 classic about a boy and his rats, based on the novel Ratman's Notebooks by Stephen Gilbert.
Written and produced by Glen Morgan and James Wong (, X-Files), with Morgan also directing.
“I want to be loyal to the original,” says Morgan. “My feeling was that it was a really terrific story, but in 1971 they obviously didn’t have the time or the money, and could only make a B-movie that went on to become something bigger. And the rule that should apply to any remake is, can you do it better, what were the circumstances then, is there a reason to, is the technology better, do you have more time and more money, and so on.”
Production began on the movie in spring 2002, with an opening date of March 14th.
Crispin Glover (perhaps best known for his role as Michael J. Fox's Father in Back to the Future) will star as Willard. “As soon as Jim and I met up with him, we said, ‘That’s the guy,’ ” recalls Morgan. “I mean, he has his neuroses that sometimes make the day challenging, but he was terrific.”
Support comes from Laura Harring (Mulholland Dr.) and the superb R. Lee Emery (best known for his role as the Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket).
Check out an excellent in-depth at 's website.
