Hello all,
Well, yesterday I went down, as most of you probably did, and picked up "Dawn Of the Dead" The Divimax Edition, and I must say that I was a bit disapointed. I checked the back of the box to find that only one disk was present and was not very happy with the extra features. I had hoped that the extras on the previously realeased version would have also been added to this disk. It was nice to have the comintary with George, but the rest of the special features were
kind of lacking. As for the rest, the transfer looks nice and crisp, and the sound seems good, I don't have THX or an Uberequilized Super Bit Quadraphonic Hyper Stereo system with 20 speakers, just a stereo T.V. It would have been nice if Anchor Bay had done this disk in the same way as the other Divimax Editions...with 2 disks. Well lets cross our fingers ans hope that the rumored multi disk version is still a go for this Summer/Fall.

Well I read reviews about it before I got it and new about the extras so I wasn't dissapointed especially since it was on sale at Bestbuy for 11.99 what else can you expect for $12.

The sound on the film was superb, but my neibors was complaining all night I gotts loewr my sub woofer ;)

That's because they're going to bleed you. AB's new DAWN OF THE DEAD is to appease people before the much-delayed Ultra-Special Edition which contains the theatrical cut, the director's cut and the European Argento cut called ZOMBI. And yes, a shitload of extras. Can't recall if that has been pushed back to 2005 or if it's coming out this fall though.

See, I read that they might be coming out with that edition, but I also read that it might be axed because of new management. It really PISSES me off when companies do :censored: like this.
One a diffrent note, I didn't realize Goblin did the soundtrack. I watched the movie and was all to aware of the cool instrumenals being played at times, and telling myself this sounds familiar. This is in no doubt the help of Dario I would think.
What I would love to see come out now would be a wide screen version of NLD on DVD.

Yup, it's time for everyone to cash in on our love of the original as the "remake" comes out. Though I had heard that this release wasn't too bad, doesn't it have a commentary?

Anyways, Im keeping hope alive for the multi-disc release. If it comes into being it will be amazing. The issues which make it look like it might fall through are: copyright issues on the documentary and argento cut, the management issues with anchor bay (the releases for early this year are kept on track, but last I heard they were "rethinking" later releases), and the fact that it had been on the cards for a while now and constantly been pushed back.

I pray this release comes through because I NEED DotD on DVD!!!

Yup, they didn't do the whole soundtrack though and a lot of "stock" music was used. But on the Argento cut it's ALL Goblin. And boy do I love Goblin

Ahhhh...But all 'Goblin' is not a good thing as you lose the superb 'Gonk' tune and the "I'm a Man" song over the Militia footage. Both essential "Dawn" elements.
The Argento cut is only worth seeing once for curiosity and comparison. I for one won't watch it again.

I read somewhere that they were actually gonna include the DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD special in the upcoming DAWN multi-disc version. If you remember, SYNAPSE released this seperately on DVD years ago so I wonder if ANCHOR BAY's gonna be able to buy it and include it. Or did that idea get nixed altogther?

However, I think the new DIVIMAX transfer is excellent from what I've seen of it so far. I didn't buy it myself (even though it was only $11 at the local BEST BUY) because I've got my fingers crossed for the special release.

Yeah, that and the Argento cut are the copyright issues that are one of the reasons which give people reason to believe it might never happen.

The transfer is very crips and clear. Not to spoil the fun but there are easter eggs, though thery are a bit lame.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was there not to be a 5 disc set from Holland at one time? To my best recollection I thought I heard something about a disc set from Holland as while back. The DOTD Dutch disc set it was referred to as. As far as the other stuff, I was told by a loal Suncoast employee the other day that this new disc was to be one of a set of 5 to be released later in the year. Oh, how they grab you collectively and separately. Completists beware.

there was a Dutch Filmworks 2 disc set ( I have it) that had the 'Directors Cut', the Argento edit, Trailers and "Document of the Dead". Pretty good quality and a nice package.
