"Now and then in the course of living a life, a person brushes up against something they can't explain, something so far outside the norm that in a sane world it ought not exist. Enclosed here are thirteen stories about this unholy interaction of the Mundane and the world Beyond:
...And the Truth Shall Make You Free - A mysterious video wends its way through the digital world, leaving nothing but madness in destruction in its wake.
Plop! - Is it merely a dream? Or is it a horrific glimpse into Outer Darkness?
Beyond the Veil - A mysterious stranger and horrible sounds from the
night give the briefest glimpse into the horrors of the Beyond.
Where the Darkest of Dark Things Dwell - Sometimes it isn't the monster outside that gets you. Sometimes it's the one inside.
Murphy's Law - A modern day Frankenstein learns the price of hubris.
The Bite - Nothing can save you now. You've been bitten...
Benton's Station -A sleepy little mining town conceals a horrible truth.
It Came At Midnight - The nighttime fancies of childhood sometimes turn out to be all too real.
Death At a Train Crossing - A paranormal enthusiast gets much more than he bargained for.
The Thing That Smiles - It lurks in the woods. Watching. Waiting.
Black Eyed Kids - An eccentric author receives a pair of strange visitors one rainy night.
The Spirit Box - A mysterious box reveals Everything...but for a price...
Pandemic Hysteria - A journalist learns the truth about a devastating plague that has swept the world.
There you have it. Thirteen stories to chill the blood. Thirteen stories that lay bear the strange reaches of our world and the dark ways beyond it.
Won't you walk with me On Dark Paths?"
It's available on Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/On-Dark-Paths-ebook/dp/B004ZS8TZG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304967836&sr=8-1), Nook (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/On-Dark-Paths/Andrew-Kincaid/e/2940012492623), and Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/58235).
Smashwords is set up so you can download it as a PDF or view it on the web. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that Kindle can be downloaded to your PC for free (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000426311)(something I will definitely capitalize on myself.)
Thanks and I hope you enjoy!

I'd say I've been writing short stories on and off for awhile but it really started to become sustained towards the end of last semester. The book itself came about almost randomly as I happened to come across articles about e-publishing and decided "eh, why not?" Yup, "On Dark Paths" is the first book I've ever published! So far it's only available in digital format, on Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords. It's short so I couldn't justify the expense (to me and my readers) of getting it put in print. But when I have about three books of short stories I'll collate them into a collection (with some unique works) then make that available in print and in ebook format.
I'm also muddling through starting a novel but it's slow going lol.
Great to hear you are working on a book! What kind of stories are you writing?

That's absolutely fantastic!! I have never heard of Smashwords, Kindle or Nook. I will definitely have to look at your stories. How long is On Dark Paths??
I am writing a short collection of horror / mystery stories. They all have a twist or a morbid ending which is what I write best lols :)

Ooo. They're all e-reader providers. It's only about 110 pages but it's only 2 bucks. I couldn't bring myself to charge anymore haha
And that sounds really cool!

I just read the preview of Dark Paths, I like your writing style. I have downloaded the PDF & will read it over the weekend.
Have you ever thought of getting some hardcopies made for prosperity & it would look cool on your bookcase.

Ah so you were the one! Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it! And as for hardcopies I'm not certain just yet...I think I'll do that when I've got three books of short stories done, as each one is going to be fairly short but altogether they'll be a full length book. I'm working on the second now :)

How is your writing coming along, Miss Italy.
I came across a Ruth Rendell in my local second-hand bookstore. It's called Not In The Flesh. It's a later Inspector Wexford mystery which I''ll have a read of when I've time. Did you read the one you was telling me about?:)

Hi LF! :)
Coming along very slowly and wish I had more time to concentrate on it more :( I have entered a couple of competitions recently. No wins as yet but very positive feedback. I have great ideas but rush the endings too quickly becasue I get excited that I am actually finishing a story
I haven't read the one I got yet which is called The Water's Lovely. I am reading a book called heartstopper at the moment by Joy Fielding. Very good so far! You will have to let me know what that one is like!
How is your painting going??

When writing, I find it best to set a clear word goal for each day. A modest one too, that you're able to reach in a reasonable amount of time. Mine for now is 500 words (about one page in Word) each day, but it will increase with time. I went on a bit of a hiatus while I was editing my 2nd book...it was difficult and I sort of lost the feel for writing for awhile.
Now though the second book is out and I'm working on my third :)

If I get round to getting a Kindle I'll be all over your book. Great price for it.
-----------------------
Lot of writers here. Which is pretty great.
I have a lot of ideas I've worked on quite a bit in my head, and bits and pieces in Word. But I just can't make myself sit down and devote myself to one. My imagination runs dry on one and I find myself with ideas for another. Rinse repeat.
The word self-sabotage springs to mind. That, and I'm a lazy bastard.

500 words a day? That's great!! I would never be able to concentrate enough to do that!! How long does it take you to write that?? I'm still writing my short stories at a slow pace .. I think I mihgt make an ebook too. How do you purchase kindle?

It usually doesn't take me very long to write...sometimes as short as twenty minutes, sometimes upwards of an hour. It just depends on how I'm feeling that day and how easy the words are coming, haha.
Ebooks are a great way to get your books out there! Just make sure you follow the formatting guidelines - they have help pages and forums. Here is the help page if you want to give it a look. (https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/help/refresh)
As for how do you purchase Kindle...I'm not sure what you mean. It's free to upload a story, and you set the price and the royalties you receive from your work. As for the Kindle itself, it should be available at most department stores, and of course on Amazon.com.
If you have a smartphone, you can download the Kindle app for free on it. Same for Ipad or Iphone as well. Also, you can download Kindle for PC for free as well.

20mins .. fantastic effort! And you said that you're up to your third novel? How many people have purchased your first two pieces of work?
I think and e-book is definitely the way to go .. I am so stuck on my novels though. It is probably my worst old fashioned habit

Yup! Working on my third book...going to be a collection of four or five novellas. As for purchases of the first two...not too many so far. From what I've seen from fellow indies, I'm doing really well for basically being an unknown, but there is still a long ways to go, haha.
Yeah I can't finish a novel. That's why I write short stories/novellas almost exclusively lol

I am more than sure you'll do great! :)
How long did it take you to write each piece of work??
Stygian Underground
09-06-2011, 04:56 PM
Oh...I'm not really sure of that actually. The second three or four months, and the first probably four to six. The second took longer to edit and was more difficult to do over all, haha. The third one isn't bad so far...but when I start edits it will probably start to be a pain lol

Editing is definitely the worst part of writing .. couldn't agree with you more there!! :)
Good luck with your third piece of work too :)
