I've always heard about how George Romero use chickens and pigs and whatnot to get realistic shots in his movies. I've even heard that some of the cast got salminella from from it. any body know if thats true? If so know any web sites or books I can look up. Im writing a speech about his movies so anything would help..thanks.

This may be alittle late for your work but according to PAUL GAGNE's excellent ROMERO book, THE ZOMBIES THAT ATE PITTSBURGH, special effects guru TOM SAVINI did indeed use animal innards from their local slaughterhouses in both DAWN and DAY OF THE DEAD.
I read through the chapters but I couldn't find anything on anyone getting salminella from them though.
You can also check out TOM SAVINI's own book, GRANDE ILLUSIONS and the old FANGORIA / STARLOG video, "SCREAM GREATS" for more information.
Anyway, I hope that helps.
