Noticed the members who just take a quote from what you posted, repost it and then hope you click the spam links in their signatures?

At least my posts are upfront and relevant, i.e. actually about upcoming movie releases, these guys just want you to click on their spam links and doubtless infect your PCs with malware.

My thread is the Horror News titles 'the fictional career of Hal Manciano' is a good example.

I've noticed the same thing, just like you did see here... :erm:

Well, we need to kick all spammers' azzes, right?

Agreed. If members of this forum didn't like my posts, I'd stop. I do PR work, not spam and I try to reach people who like cult films, not force product onto people who don't want it.

I'm always aware that forums can be very personal for people and breaking into the to promote something is a little like disturbing a private conversation to ask for a cigarette, you have to be extremely polite, thoughtful and considerate to get the result you want.

These guys don't care and worst of all, they are lazy and stupid. I know what I wrote and it was obvious to me straight away that the quotes were lifted. If you going to do signature spamming, at least write something new to cover your ass.

Will you 100% Ghostman

Yes, right. You can always report to the admin owner JohnShaft, or any moderators of this HE Forum. ;)

They are absolutely brutal atm. For a while I thought they were on-topic posters getting paid to spam too. But they pretty much do seem to just hijack content and repost it (sometimes from other pages or threads).

I'm looking into ways to get them shutdown. The problem is every time you institute a new measure to stop them it often also creates an obstacle for other legit new members. Even the signature spamming, they're actually bypassing signatures and adding it to the botton of their posts (so disabling signatures actually didn't work).

I've tried changing some options, and if that doesn't work I have another thing or two to go to.

Thanks for your patience, and sorry about all the inconvenience guys. :(

(I'm also going through threads removing old occurences of these guys from littering up the forum).

Fucking spammers though, scum of the earth.

*is alive*

Sometimes there is a tiny segment of code you can change in the registration process - that might through any bots off. Maybe shove in a few // comments, or change a small variable so the bots don't pick up on the code. I initially did that on my forums - before the Turkish hackers got to it - and did so, and had no issues with spam.

This 'member' seems to be trying to post code that doesn't work in threads. I spotted the words Gucci Replica in there somewhere.

If it's any consolation, Our forum has had to stave off literally 1000s of spam attacks. If any admins want some tips, our web guy has a few tricks I think.

I saw that today. I will report it. Thanks. ;)
