Hey everyone, I just joined and am into must horror related things. Anyway my favorite author is Clive Barker. I love his horror and his other-worldly type fantisy. I'd like your opinions on him. Also, Right now I'm reading Stephen Kings The Stand. After that Barkers Imajica, Then some H.P. Lovecraft. Anyone know of any authors that are similar to Barkers brand of strange fiction?

Books of Blood by Clive Barker is my favorite collection of all time. Someone that isn't quite macabre as Clive but has a similar literary strangeness is Richard Gavin. Gavin is the author of another one of my fav collections, "The Darkly Splendid Realm," check it out here: http://www.darkregions.com/products/The-Darkly-Splendid-Realm-by-Richard-Gavin.html

Books of Blood was classic because nothing like it had ever been done in print before. Horror movies yeah but in print form? It was incredible for it's time and still one of my favorites. Check out Blue World by Robert Mccammon. Also Brian Lumley has the Necroscope Series which totally rocks.

The Thief of Always is an all time fav of mine from the horror genre, but nothing beats I Am Legend.

Barker was dropped by his publisher, HarperCollins earlier this year. It'll be interesting to see which publisher now pick him up for his adult titles. The Scarlet Gospels, which was lined up to be published sometime in 2011, will contain a story with a final showdown between Harry D'Amour and Pinhead, so I can't see it taking too long for him to find another publishing deal.
He's staying with HC for his YA titles.
He was one of the first horror authors I read as a teenager. I think the quality of his work has fluctuated a hell of a lot over the years. Coldheart Canyon, for instance, was one book I couldn't even finish, it was that bad. The Books Of Blood, however, are one of the finest collection of horror shorts ever to see the light of day.
