This is a must have for any fans of trashy, sleazy, grindhouse gems that used to spew out all over the notorious 42nd Street/Deuce area.

Not only is it a wonderful look at that onderful area and the bizarre and sometimes tragic people that populated it, but it's also a great read (even with a few factual errors) on loads of the most deranged, explicit, extreme and unique films of those wonderful times in movie history.

A must buy.

i thought this book had fantastic descriptions of the old grindhouses and the area that they were in. but way way way toooooo much time was wasted on third person narrative of the movies he was talking about. pages upon pages were wasted on this. and it was even more boring if you had already seen the movies. it would be stretching it to give this book a C+. sorry.

I actually have this book. Just like the Times Square grindhouses it describes, the book is sleazy, unclean, devoid of all innocence and yes, quite entertaining. The book brings a lot of interesting things to light, especially in some of the revelations about the filmmakers. Agreed, there are a few factual errors, more than a few actually. And personally, the book devoted an inordinate amount of time to roughie type films (the OLGA and FLESH trilogies, etc.). Also, he seemed to editorialize quite a bit - dismissing many of the actual horror films of the bunch like ZOMBIE, MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY (CANNIBAL FEROX's U.S. theatrical name) and others way too quickly, and not really describing the influence they've had in recent years. Still, a very entertaining read. Like a HOLLYWOOD BABYLON but without the glitz or glamour.
