Wow - good call, Sharon. The Crow is definitely one of my favorite soundtracks. I also love the soundtrack for House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. But see a prior post - I'm pretty much gaga for anything Rob Zombie.

maybe a little strange to take just 2 scores, but if I had my way I could easily name a couple or more than 30 scores I love.
but mainly the end titles from child's play really had me whistling the notes since i was a kid, and every halloween movie (except III) has that familiar theme that is simple and effective. So for this round I give praise to Joe Renzetti and John Carpenter. Cheers!

The Nekromantiks and Schramm really play in my head. I bought the Nekro CDs and pump them loud.
Devils Rejects was ok, as was Phantasm, the Goblin controlled Argentos, Return Of The Living Dead and Day Of The Dead (Original, of course)
My top one has to be Psychomania.
I'm a sucker for the old blaxploitations as well, e.g, Black Caesar, The Mack, etc.

I personally loved this movie, and one aspect about it I liked was the awesomely creepy music it had with it. I have the soundtrack, and I was just wondering if anybody else dose- or what your thoughts are about the music of this film

Watch pretty much any Dario Argento flick, many strong contenders of my personal favourite to hard to decide though on which one but if I have to pick I pick Argento s Phenomena hey I am daring to be different here, I know must will say either Suspiria or Tenebre.

Jaws
Psycho
Suspiria
The Fog
Phantasm
Halloween
Candyman
Poltergeist
Firestarter
Fright Night
Pumpkinhead
The Lost Boys
Naturally, I'm referring to the original "The Fog" and "Halloween". I must say that I generally like John Carpenter's work a great deal and find it surprising that he isn't mentioned often enough. I also like Robert Cobert's work for Dan Curtis, including "Dark Shadows" and "Kolchak: The Night Stalker". I have to add Alan Silvestri to the list, including his work on the Mummy soundtracks.
As sure as I close this, I'm sure I'll think of others, including many I have in my soundtrack collection.

I luv the original Halloween soundtrack, tho a lot of it is just the main theme slightly altered. As others have pointed out, Jaws' soundtrack is damn good too. I recently listened to the Aliens and Alien 3 soundtracks, and really liked em. Never realized how good those were aside from 1 or 2 standout tracks.

Hi, it's my first post here!
I have several movies soundtracks that I like. I love Jaws and the Exorcist and my boxset of all three Omen scores is never off my Ipod!
But I also LOVE the soundtracks to Halloween, (old and new) and also Scream, The Lost Boys.
This doesn't strictly count but I have a cd of movie music and I love the opening music to the original Amityville Horror and Poltergeist.

Definitely.
Believe it or not I actually heard a political candidate running an ad
on the radio about his opponent and they were using the Tubular Bells
Exorcist theme as background music.
I would give Halloween credit as well but as far as all time favorite -

Love the Demons soundtrack, too! And what about Phenomena, with Maiden's Flash of the Blade? Cool! In fact all of Goblins music in Argento films is superb.
Another favourite is Bernard Herrman (Psycho, Vertigo, Cape Fear), and also Howard Shore: The Fly is epic, and what about the icy-cold score from Crash!?
I recently watched Night of the Demons. Best scene: Angela's gothic dance to the strains of Bauhaus' Stigmata Martyr....worth the price of admission alone!
Other cool music: Return of the Living Dead, Creepshow, An American Werewolf In London, Brainscan, Fright Night....

The Phillip Glass score from Candyman has gotta be in the top ten scariest horror themes of all time; Bernard Herrmann's Vertigo is another. Love the Dark Shadows music too - you can't beat the theremin for inducing chills!

I think the 28 Days Later soundtrack is awesome. It's nice to hear tastefully applied electric guitars in any situation, especially one where we're used to hearing huge orchestral sounds or carefully produced 'synthetic' music. I don't know about how people usually feel about the more classic/typical kind of horror soundtrack, but I think electric guitars and drums are so much easier to relate to, as they're what pretty much make up the soundtrack of my own life.

I agree about the use of guitars and drums, but feel there's room for both traditional and the more modern uses of music. But it's the music itself that's the important thing, whether it creates the right atmosphere, emotion, or dramatic effect. regardless of instrument.
I would have to say Bernard Herrmann is my all-time favourite; his scores never fail to stir me. Recently watched Twisted Nerve, and just his simple melody that's used here is incredible.
Halloween, ANOES, Psycho, & the Shining in that order. :)

Going by original score I would say Kubrick's The Shining. Part of what scared me so bad was the sound effects and music. Going by multiple artist soundtracks I would say either the Scream 3 soundtrack or if you would count this as horror, The Crow soundtrack. Both had great music on it but The Crow had better bands on it. It introduced me to The Cure and Violent Femmes.

I'd go along with that. Such a shame the third couldn't have continued the trend; to have a trilogy at least of decent films that do justice to Barker's mythology.
Having said this, I watched the third again not too long ago and I love the scene in the church in spite of myself....(Don't let the third film put you off reading Peter Atkins also, brilliant writer!):)
