Personally, I think they should change the title to GHOULS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN.

The ever-changing schedule of brilliant director George A. Romero was thrown another curve this week with the announcement that he may be heading into uncharted territory... that of movie musical!

Diabolical Dominion reports that Romero may be in line to direct a horror musical called DIAMOND DEAD. It involves an 80s rock band who dies and comes back as zombies to conquer the pop charts. The music will be written by Richard Hartley, who was a music arranger for THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and worked on the underrated ROCKY pseudo-sequel SHOCK TREATMENT as part of his lengthy and ecclectic resume.

Romero has signed onto the project and has penned a rewrite of Brian Cooper's script.

Thing is, with THE ILL stalling and the fourth DEAD film on perpetual hot-and-cold status, wouldn't it be amazing if Romero made a musical happen? Everyone in Hollywood wants to do a musical! John Woo has plans for a musical. Scorsese has plans for a musical! Oliver Stone has batted the idea around. Still, despite the success of MOULIN ROUGE (my fave film of 2001) and CHICAGO, studios are still leary about giving their support to the old school format. And here, this brilliant director who can't seem to get an even break could actually make it happen! We'll keep you posted.
