World famous composer, conductor and music producer Michael Kamen has passed away at the age of 55.
Kamen composed the scores for such memorable horror and fantasy films as VENOM, THE DEAD ZONE, BRAZIL, LIFEFORCE, HIGHLANDER, THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN, HUDSON HAWK, ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES, THE LAST ACTION HERO, EVENT HORIZON, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, THE IRON GIANT, FREQUENCY (one of Stephen King's favorite films according to a new Entertainment Weekly article) and X-MEN. He also composed music for the television shows AMAZING STORIES, BAND OF BROTHERS and TALES FROM THE CRYPT.
His notable non-horror resume includes LETHAL WEAPON, DIE HARD, SHANGHAI SURPRISE, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, THE KRAYS, LET HIM HAVE IT, THE LAST BOY SCOUT, DON JUAN DE MARCO, STONEWALL, MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS and FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. His most recent release was the sleeper hit, OPEN RANGE.
Kamen conducted the orchestra on Metallica's landmark release, S&M. He was nominated for Best Song Oscars in his Bryan Adams collaborations, "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" from ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES and "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" from DON JUAN DE MARCO. He won a Grammy for the ROBIN HOOD song.
Kamen had been suffering from multiple sclerosis for years. He finally succumbed to an apparant heart attack in a London hospital. He is survived by a wife and two daughters.
