My name is Jay. Fourty years old , married with 3 weiner dogs as children. I am more a fantasy/scifi geek, but since having the crap scared out of me when Richard Dryfus saw a dead Ben Gardner in Jaws on the big screen, I became a fan. For books, I have not read much King lately, just the older stuff. Same with Koontz. A bit of humour for your day. My wife and I met on a Harry Potter website, and we married one year ago this Holloween night in a haunted house. (the fake kind...not a real one:teeth:)

Hi Jay.

Forty huh? Amazing how it's almost a cause for embarassment on the 'net ain't it? All these young 'uns think this should be their sole domain!

Anyway you don't stand out here. I'm 37, and there's older than me here.

You're the second "Old King" fan to join today, and once more I'm with you. Did you see the recent movie of THE MIST directed by Frank Darabont (of SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION)?

How you met your wife is pretty damn cool. Amazing how often people meet and marry like that now. I guess we are becoming global.

So welcome to Horror Express, and stick around!

Thanks John,
I did see THE MIST,
and loved it until the useage of creative license.
The end was grim, which I like. However, it did push the suspension of disbelief a bit far. Dad will protect son through the entire film, then kill him to save him from a gruesome death. I don't know. Something didn't quite do it for me.

As for meeting the wife, it is pretty cool. She lived in Michigan, and I here in Oregon.
I do find it entertaining to see the response to the age. Young 'uns indeed.
Thanks for the kind welcome.

Jay, ain't that funny, with THE MIST,
despite normally hating the results of creative licence, I loved the ending the moment I saw it.

For one thing I think while the novellas none-ending can work in print I think it works less well on celluloid because movies are usually complete self-contained experiences, mostly I guess because that's what non-reading moviegoers expect. I also think it did a great job of actually making the story end even *darker*. And dark endings are something I almost universally love.
I do take your point about how realistic it was for the father to do it, but given an instant painless death for his son, and one where he was dragged off by some spider to spend his days in a living hell as a home for baby spiders, I'd choose the bullet, from either perspective!

THE MIST is one of two King short stories I've always wanted made into a movie. The other one I absolutely adore - THE LONG WALK.

As for age, the forums I do frequent it seems like anyone outside of their 20's is looked at like the main character from AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON walking into the Yorkshire pub! One day the 'net will have a full distribution of ages I'm sure, when all the kids are in their 70's, but atm it is skewed towards the young 'uns. :)

BW - Nice. :D A pleasure to meet you ma'am. We old fogies do like some of the stuff you younsters do, too. (insert cheesy grin here)

John, Sorry about the spoiler bit. I seemed to have a complete brain disconnect there. EXACTLY!! I started speaking to some folks on a forum, and they were all creeped out that some "old pervie" actually liked what they did.
