Just want to say that this is easily the best horror forum I have ever been on, and I've looked around. While it is not as active as others (I'm in the process of trying to get others to join), it just looks the best, has the best name, best logo picture, etc.
Great forum, hope nothing happens to it!

Thank you so much! I also wish we would have more active users... but overall I really like it here too.

Back in the day, this used to be a really popular site - during one of John's absences, however, the site got more quiet - and then the spambots came!
Hoping we can get it nice and activate again. :)

Beast I really appreciate your comments (and contributions). It warms my heart to know that people like visiting Horror Express.
We've never been as busy as I'd like, or had enough visitors to get the "snowball effect". But I love that the posters we have are really cool, and we have no arseholes here. I find the arsehole quotient tends to really kick in on busier forums. I still hold out hope that we get the vistor numbers I'd like one day, while still maintaining our ethos.
The SPAM was very quite, but reading Moderation forums it seems to be kicking in everywhere lately. And even some with graphic porn images, which was unheard of before. That really pisses me off from an innapropriateness standpoint.
But overall I really appreciate those who contribute to the forum and site. Without you all this place wouldn't still be going. With you all we're here to stay.
Regards
John

Irony alert.
And if I see any more attempts at circumventing our no-Ad signature policy I'll be getting involved.
Sigs have only been removed so I can figure out a way of stopping spammers using them.

This was such a happy accident: finding Horror Express! (By the way: love the movie!) I didn't set out to find such a forum, but something about the design caught my eye as I finished my research for Y!A Movies. I decided to join, a purely impulsive decision. Then, I decided to leap in my identifying some movies. Then, I ventured to other threads. Well, I ended up spending quite a bit of time here, posting and reading others' posts. I became increasingly impressed by the lack of "flaming", the generally "clean" language, and the consideration members show to each other, particularly evident in the thread in which we are invited to post pictures of ourselves. That is only the second time that I felt brave enough to post a photo; the other is at The Phantom's Opera, a forum that focuses especially on RPing.
The only thing I'd fuss about is this: Why is there no way to edit a post? I try to be careful, but I have several illnesses that affect my vision and my thinking process. Fibromyalgia sufferers call it "fibrofog". I also have occasional problems with aphasia, accidentally substituting words. Yes, it's embarrassing. But, there's no way to fix the errors when I do it here. Is there a reason for no editing allowed? Just curious...
Also, I thought I'd ask about this here: Would there be interest in a thread about photographs of cemeteries? I myself am fascinated with tombstones and statuary, mausoleums and monuments, etc. Is there such a thread? If not, where might one be added, if it's allowable? Maybe I'm the only one who finds this fascinating, which truly would be surprising actually, giving the connection of horror and cemeteries.
By the way: I could be the oldest person at this site. Is that a bad thing? Or, is that close to six decades of horror experience, as my parents never minded my sister and I watching horror films, which in our childhood was reruns of Universal and RKO, plus such films as "13 Ghosts" in the theater. (Yes, I clearly remember wearing those dumb 3D glasses. What goes 'round does come 'round again.)
As for this forum: I hope I can help keep up the good work.

I forgot to ask: Is there a rule about signature banners? I'm still doing as much reading as I can. I apologize if I've broken any rules, as it certainly isn't intentional. I shall do much more reading and see if I can find out even more. I've seen a few "siggies" and tried to check properties, but I'm such a newbie that I might be very wrong.
Again: Great forum!

Nope - I do not believe there are any rules on signatures - but for the most part, they are disabled due to spambots.

Soooo, if my images are in place, I'm safe from spambots? I've heard about those critters but am tech-challenged enough to not have a clue as to what they are. All I know is that whatever I've posted is still there. I wouldn't want to be a bad member! I'm rather a stickler for rules.

Yes, I like this forum. I like that I can say what I feel about a film or such and I am not flamed..unless its a nice debate on differences of opinion.....remember that SomeWhatDamaged?!!. I come here to read the threads and post. We need more UG films mentioned.....oh I dig the english and JohnShaft

I'm not a stickler for clean language - I'm often swearing like a sailor, and I feel like too many forums don't allow us to speak like adults ("won't somebody think of the children!"). On a horror forum, which should be adult heavy, there should be some licence. Besides, we all know swearing is something we're introduced to at a very young age. Any parent that thinks 11-year-olds (and younger) aren't exposed to rampant swearing already needs to spend a day at a school.
But I AM a stickler for friendly behaviour. Too many horror forums are flame-fests, and cliques of people ("you're not in the in crowd"). Can't be donig with that.
The only thing I'd fuss about is this: Why is there no way to edit a post?I've changed this, so you should now be able to. It was set up in the past where you could edit for so long, but somehow (maybe in an update) that was no longer the case. I agree entirely not being able to edit is a real pain.

Your sigs 100% fine. Like Unc said they were just recently disabled (using the actual signature procedure) due to spam bots using them to sneak links in.
I've never had a problem with any genuine members sig. The only ones I'd really deal with is those that take up half a page or more. But I've nver seen one of those here anyway.
oh I dig the english and JohnShaft
Yeah we have had a lot of English people here over the years. Probably a higher percentage than any International board I've been on. Which is kinda cool.
And thanks for the dig. :afro:

The worst part is - these recent spambots are actually being somewhat on topic. They're getting pretty clever, and it's not until you see the 'fake signature' seeing "Marketing" or "Wholesale" it makes you think... "wait a second...!". It's getting difficult to separate the bullshit from the actual users sending a useful link!

Blessings upon you! I can edit! That really means so much to me because of my illnesses. I can be a fussbudget about something being written correctly~as much as possible. I get so embarrassed when I mess up! Also, I wouldn't have to double post at times, which I imagine is discouraged.
About the language: I expect some swearing. I mean the downright nasty stuff I've seen too many places on the Net, especially when referring to women in horror films. Some of the stuff at IMDb, for one example, is really bad. I can't believe that admin lets some of this stuff stand.
I have felt so welcomed here, and people have been so supportive and friendly. I haven't been afraid that, at any moment, I would be attacked for my opinion or simply because of my age and gender. Believe me: That has happened! I never would have felt comfortable enough to post a picture of myself or admit that I am~yes!~a crazy cat lady. (I'm still laughing about the 7 cats/7 sharks thing!)
I've already been praising Horror Express elsewhere and to on-line friends.
