He came. He saw. He chopped up the competition and hung them out on meathooks. The TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake beat out The Rock, Denzel, Jack Black, John Grisham and Uma Thurman (dammit). $ 29 million is a damn good take for this film - in fact it's more than twice the film's $ 13 million budget.
As is the case with every single successful horror property these days, talk has already begun on the follow-up. The current reports say "sequel" while Michael Bay has been saying "prequel" (I don't know if they should call the film 'LIL LEATHERFACE, but I would love to develop the animated series if any rich producers are interested).
is also reporting that Bay and producer Mike Fleiss are also talking "a high-concept comedy that would be directed by Brett Ratner" (whoopty-fucking-doo) and a remake of DR. JECKYLL & MISTER HYDE, presumably through their Platinum Dunes company. The HYDE adaptation would be written by the ulta-hot Steve Niles of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT fame.
