[I 180w tcm2 I]The TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake comes out today and there have been tons of press junkets that have allowed various sites access to the main players.
Not us, of course. We're pretty low on the totem poll. But that doesn't mean we're not going to give access to one of the big boys in the group - Michael Bay. Bay has been criticized for delivering films of all style/no substance, while others say he's an heir apparent to Speilberg and Ridley Scott. The fact that he has started his own company dedicated to low-budget horror has slipped mostly under the radar.
As always, has one of the better layouts. On why Bay decided to remake CHAINSAW, he says: "The title. I think there's a whole generation that hasn't seen it. They've heard about it. It's a classic title... There's a fine line when you're making this great cult classic, and try to stay faithful to the core and try to modernize it. You know? And the reason I wanted to do this movie was I was tired of seeing these horror movies that were too jokey and just parodies. I just wanted a straight-ahead, old school, doom-and-gloom, nothing, no effects, something you could do on a low budget flm. Low budget makes it, I think it helps the movie. It was done for ten million bucks... It was a conscious decision of, okay, when we do this movie, we're gonna say, 'This is the true story of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is what happened.' We left it open ended, I don't want to say too much about how we chose to make it different."
On whether he's concerned over backlash from purists who don't want a CHAINSAW remake: "Of course! And, I'll always get the comment from the cult people, 'No, I didn't like it.' But I've gotten a lot of cult people that have seen the movie, there was this guy from MTV he goes, 'Listen, I wasn't too excited, I mean, you got the girl from WB, you got you doing all your big movies, you got like...' What was the other negative thing...? (laughs) Anyway, 'I just wasn't excited to see this. And TEXAS is one of my top five, you know, the original.' And he goes, 'I gotta tell ya, this is faithful. It's a ten out of ten.' He just loved it. You know, that's good, but you're always gonna get some backlash."
The Corner isn't the only ones who have the skinny. has a good bit with many other sites following suit. So go on, check out the interviews.
