Okay, despite the fact that I didn't fully enjoy the movie, I have to confess that the score is awesome and I would like to be able to obtain the soundtrack.
But at 50ish dollars it is out of my budget... I was wondering if someone would have it used and would be willing to sell or trade it.
Also I was wondering what were other people toughts on the music... do you find it creepy? boring? whatever?
can't wait to see your replies

Hi BW.
I saw SUSPIRIA for the first time a handful of years ago. I do agree it has aged. But I thought it held up pretty well considering its age and budget. Though I can agree if it was made today it would sink without a trace. To see it for the first time in its day it could have been something though. And I think catching old films 30 years too late rarely leaves one with a positive impression.
I'm with you on the Goblin soundtrack though. I think it probably is the strongest thing about the film now. The main theme is just incredibly creepy and cool. Maybe the best horror track ever.
I don't have the soundtrack for trade, but Amazon.com has it for $24.49 (http://www.amazon.com/Suspiria-Fabio-Pignatelli/dp/B0000278YH/).

I am a big fan of both Argento and Goblin. I think that the film and the music are really good. They compliment each other.
I'll have to look through my collection and see what I have....

John, Thanx for pointing me to amazon, but with shipping, taxes, border and transfer in canadian dollars, it will be more than what I have to spend.
SQ (funny same accronyme as the "state" police here) thanx so much for the offer, I am just discovering Goblin's music and I am falling in love with them.. Let me know if you have something for me :D

Yeah, it was a quirky wee shocker, wasn't it? I enjoyed the film, for what it was. The soundtrack maxed its creepiness and quirk-appeal in equal measure.
Best of luck in tracking it down, BW. I know it's like stating the obvious, but have you checked E-Bay?

You've got me to thinking (particularly in mind of what I'm listening to right now) of what films have a score that is as crucial, or moreso, to the film as SUSPIRIA.
I think it's a hell of a short list, which shows how good it is.
The one I'm listening to right now I think is perhaps even more key to the film. Goldsmiths score to THE OMEN. The lack of this score was a large part of why the recent remake was so damn flat and leached of all power. It does a great job of being ridiculously satanic and unsubtle, but still manages to not go so far as to be laughable. The whole Gregorianish chanting just flips me right out.
Other than that the only other iconic horror score I can think of is Carpenters HALLOWEEN. But I think that's possible become more iconic in it's own right than being something that had to absolutely carry the film.
But yeah, I go with THE OMEN. The score counterpoints every key scene in the movie, and is actually much deeper than just one endlessly reused track.
Any other "the film wouldn't have been half of what it was without the score" movies I'm missing?

Gosh....let me see....
Psycho
Jaws
I personally have a soft spot for the Italian Giallo and Goblin do them sooo well.
Other music worth noting is Nekromantik...why? The music really confuses you...some guy is having sex with a corpse and this beautiful piano music is playing, really clever, messes with your head.
Cannibal Holocaust does the same kind of thing....as does the ear-cutting scene in reservoir dogs, it's weird, you find yourself jigging around while this terrible event is taking place.
I Spit on your Grave...practically no music in the film at all...makes things even more eerie.
Deliverance....only music all through the film is the dueling banjos..

Excellent topic, John....
I'm going to suggest anything by John Carpenter, as well. Man, I love his scores.

I love the music in Suspiria, especially the theme tune which I know one of Necro's camp sampled. :D
