Good news for U.S. Fans of The Ring and Hideo Nakata's classic Ringu. Dreamworks will be releasing both the US remake and the Japanese original simultaneously on March 4th on DVD and VHS (does anyone still use these?).

Ringu will be presented in Widescreen with Subtitles (yay for all those dub haters). For the remake an extended version of "the video within the video" will also be included for added creep factor.

I'm tempted with getting the first one from Play.com, but is sadly out of stock.

I will probably wait until I see what differences are between the versions first.

Yeah I ain't seen the remake yet.
It sounds like maybe it's not as bad as I feared though so I'll probably consider it myself.
Would be very suprised if it could hold a candle to the original mind.

I already got the trilogy set, but I am curious as how well Dreamworks is going to treat this gem in their DVD release. Hopefully some extras and some black outlined subs. :)

Yeah the T.V. crawl sure is something.

I made the mistake of watching Mark Kermode's introduction to the film on Channel 4 before it though and he built it up huge, and of course I then *expected* it. Which removes that suprise 'jump out of your seat' scare factor you'd get from it otherwise.
If there's anything that spells doom for your enjoyment of a film it is when it's been built up by somebody to incredible proportions AND they've told you what the best bits are!
I now try and watch films never expecting them to be great even when people tell me they are.

Incidentally I misheard him saying the name of the evil force in it and thought he had said Mass Murderer "Charles Costadarko" (he *had* said "Child Ghost Sadako") which I thought sounded a great name for a Mass Murderer. So when in the dim and distant future I finally write a book about a Mass Murderer who would eat Lecter's liver for breakfast with a nice Chianti, you know where it came from!
