Arrgh, I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! When will I learn?
Actually, I spotted this on a while back, but when I went back to post the news here, I couldn't find it anywhere. I began to think I hallucinated the whole thing. Now, other sites have repeated the news as well.
It seems like whenever a DVD comes out that is a wee bit less than what one would expect of a major release, the studios are just lying in wait to spring a Special Edition on us so we can buy it all over again. It's called double-dipping and we've been suckered into doing it for EVIL DEAD, ARMY OF DARKNESS, HALLOWEEN, BLACK HAWK DOWN and many more.
When Dreamworks released their 100 million-grossing remake of Hideo Nakata's film on DVD with nothing but a 15 minute conceptual piece, we should have known better. Sure enough, just in time for Halloween, Dreamworks is unveiling an Unrated Edition of the 2002 film THE RING on October 7th.
does not say exactly what the disc will entail, but you can probably count on some heavy-duty specs to hit the net within a couple weeks. This release is Region 1 and we have no news if it will go to other continents. However, does say that the unofficial RINGU sequel, RAISEN (SPIRAL) will be released on Region 2 on September 29th, and the U.S. hasn't seen a peep out of that one yet.
Finally, for those who like their horror more animated, the RINGU manga will be released in trade paperback format by on November 12th. The manga is reproduced faithfully from the Japanese original and will span 304 pages.
Looks like RING fans will have a busy fall ahead of them.
