If you didn't love BEAUTIFUL CREATURES as much as I did, then you won't realize how cool this is. If you haven't seen BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, you should. It's a better, smarter, funnier and edgier THELMA & LOUISE for urbanites.

reports that Rachel Weisz has joined the cast of CONSTANTINE. If that doesn't mean anything to you, keep in mind that CONSTANTINE is the long in developement adaptation of the horror-fantasy themed comic, HELLBLAZER.

Weisz is probably recognized by most from her central roles in THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS. She has also appeared in such notable projects as STEALING BEAUTY, THE SHAPE OF THINGS, CONFIDENCE, ABOUT A BOY and ENEMY AT THE GATES. CONSTANTINE is the latest on her very full schedule. She has already wrapped Barry Soddenfeld's ENVY, the Sam Neil thriller SHE DIED ON CANVAS (Hey! Great title!) and Gary Fleder's RUNAWAY JURY. She's currently in production on DAISY WINTERS and MARLOWE, which is based on the life of classic DR. FAUSTUS playwright, Christopher Marlowe. Weisz has a knack for going between big Hollywood productions and small, intriguing independent films. She still frequently appears in various productions in the United Kingdom.

Weisz joins the cast as Angela, the assistant to the title character Constantine, played by Keanu Reeves. Constantine is a P.I. with dark powers who becomes involved in a supernatural mystery. Reeves and Weisz co-starred in box office bomb, CHAIN REACTION, a film I honestly think could have been good if they didn't rush it so quick through production (They were just starting filming a few months before it hit theatres).

CONSTANTINE will begin filming on Sept. 17 and is aiming for a September 2004 release. It is directed by first-timer Francis Lawrence.

Too bad a young MICKEY ROURKE from ANGEL HEART hadn't played the role years ago. I always thought that he would have made the perfect JOHN CONSTANTINE since he had such a similar type character in that movie, or at least from what I remember of that character when I used to read the original SWAMP THING comic.

Well..........

I loved Allen Moore's SWAMP THING and I bought all the HELLBLAZER comics from issue one up to somewherein the 60s so the news that they are making Constantine an American and that Keanu is playing him is enough to make me want to...I don't know....puke? ...slit my wrists perhaps?

WHAT THE FUCK...way to fuck up a movie you hollywood fuckheads.

My choice to play Constantine would be, these days, Ewan McGregor. And for the love of god make him BRITISH!! A telling of the Newcastle story would becool or his conflict with the demon NERGAL.

I almost never say stuff like this...and I'm gonna sound like one of those dicks on the aicn board but I gotta say it: THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK ASS.

OK, I said it. Feel better now...

Yeah, knew the Keanu casting wouldn't go unnoticed. Expect hordes of rampaging demons to be met with the telltale, "Woah." Damn, we've got some perceptive posters here. :D

Oh well, at least Rachel Weisz is in it.

Well actually I don't jump on that "Keanu haters" bandwagon. He can act...check out his turn in Ramai's THE GIFT and he didn't ruin THE MATRIX either.

Scott, I'm guessing you never read HELLBLAZER comics but the fact that he was a Brit was a major part of his character and the setting of the stories themselves. This is part of that "AMericanization" thing you were talking about with DOG SOILDERS 2. I don't care which American plays him really, it's that fact that they changed the character AND the setting that really pisses me off.

John Constantine also has blond hair and he looks sort of like Sting did in the 80s....hence I think McGregor would be a good choice.

So the Lead Character is British. How does that rule Keanu out? Chuk You're forgetting the superb English accent he did in DRACULA... :lmao:
As for the "Keanu haters" bandwagon, I don't know where I stand. I think he's fine, and even ideal, for the right role. But really how many of those has there been for him? Neo was somewhat of an aberration, in that it made him cool again, while completely failing to stretch his 'acting abilities'. Really it was an easy gig for Keanu.

I'm sort of the same with Tom Cruise. I must confess to a dislike of him, but that doesn't mean he utterly ruins a film by his presence. I loved him in BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. And I was pleased he didn't spoil MINORITY REPORT, when I watched it recently, either.

Americanisation though... We don't really expect much less from America do we? :woot:
