Hi. I'm Flayed. 28yrs old, been a horror fan for a long time now. My favorite film of all time is Exorcist III. I'm kind of shopping about, as my current horror forum has went to shit. This looks like a decent place to start, so I'll give it a whirl.

Hey Flayed, welcome to Horror Express!
EXORCIST III? Very interesting choice. I saw it for the first time only a couple of years ago. I expected it to be pretty damn poor sequel fare, but I was actually very suprised by it. George C. Scott's performance as the sedentary cop, a very unconvential protagonist, really elevated it, as did the always excellent Brad Douriff. And it has some really well executed set pieces that really give it a great atmosphere. So I can see why you dig it.
On the subject of favourite movies you might like to check out our DESERT ISLAND HORROR (http://www.horrorexpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2639) thread.
In truth I won't claim our forum isn't the busiest on the net atm, but I think we have a great bunch of people who, unlike many horror forums, behave in a very mature way. You won't see much in the way of flame wars and pointless arguments here. We're more about intellingent and rational discussion.
Out of curiousity, if you don't mind me asking, which forum did you frequent that has went tits up?
Nice to see a new face here, and I hope you stick around.
Regards
John

Sure. I actually checked to see if you were ever a member there. It appears you (or someone with the exact same name) signed up but never posted. It's horror.com. It's really descended into a bit of a cesspool lately. You can hardly get any conversation outside of the general forum. I still love the place, but I need a home away from home. This place, even though slow, seems nice enough. I think I'll stick around. Thanks for the welcome.

It's true this isn't a high traffic forum, but it is much more sane then some of the busier and crazier forums I've been on.

Ah Horror.com. That explains it. Yes, I registered there a long time ago, as I did at most horror sites, since I started Horror Express.
Whenever I've checked out H.com it just hasn't been to my taste. I mean, having a look now, there's a humungous thread on their main forum called "The Official Fuck You Thread", with the express purpose of being able to say "Fuck You!" to other people. Maybe it's just me but I grew out of that phase at 13 (well, tbh, I was never in that phase).
That's just so not like us it's untrue.
I know another horror forum at one of the busiest horror sites (and forums) on the net, where basically abusing each other is not only not frowned on, it seems positively encouraged. And I just don't get that. I don't see why anyone would want to be involved in a forum where that was part of the routine of posting.
And the thing is I'm not even talking about getting into heated debate about movies, that might get a little out of hand. I'm talking about just general "You fucking idiot" type comments that come out of left field.
As for us, I'd much rather stay quality over quantity. I'd rather have a great 100 posters than 300 insulting morons. So my interest really is in getting and retaining cool posters, even if they aren't on here every minute like they may be elsewhere. If they just come back regularly for some sane and intelligent talk that's cool with me.
We just need a few more people to regularly visit us to get up a head of steam. I always use a snowball analogy, and at this point the snowball just hasn't got big enough to build up it's own momentum. But if all our regulars, and people like yourself, stick around then I can really see it happening...

Sort of the same for me. I was at Bloody-Disgusting.com before coming here.

Ah yes. I registered at B-D, but hardly ever posted. There were a few members there that really seemed to know their stuff (I think skankenstein was the name) that I learned a lot from. Mostly though, a lot of crap.

BD was like the site I meant when I said it was an "abuse free-for-all". Cool main page and all. Some good regulars I'm sure. But the forum atmosphere is pure 13-year-old.
