The first Candyman will always be my favorite. As for the sequels....I feel they were lacking something.

The first one I liked so much I went to see it twice when it came out. Love the creppy Philip Glass score. Strangley it didn't hold up as well some 10 years later when I watched the dvd. Could it be the poor transfer? Still a good horror movie though.
Did not watch sequels.

To be fair, the first sequel, CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH, at least had some involvement from Barker. It was actually pretty effective, even some of it felt a bit too familiar. The second CANDYMAN was not nearly as bad as anyone would expect.
The third CANDYMAN however, is an embarassment.

I absolutely agree with you on CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH Scott.
I was expecting it to close to unwatchable but I found it was much better than that. IIRC it actually started out very well, and certain scenes were very well done.
I might be wrong on this but is there an exception to the rule that Clive Barker's Novels turned into Films are very well done when he's involved (especially as the Director) but absolutely suck when he isn't involved... I know this is par for the course with writers, but with him is there even an exception?
He really should make more Movies. Especially as his books have drifted away from the unique brand of horror he started his career with.
I am still a big fan of his. But like Stephen King I used to think he was "the Future of Horror" circa the early 90's.
Sadly I no longer believe that.

OK I think I tried to watch CANDYMAN 2 but it was set in New Orleans. Huh? The first one is in Chicago so this makes no sense whatsoever and I couldn't get past that. If you're gonna make a sequel you have to follow at least a few rules......

Candyman 1&2 are very well done horror movies,Tony Todd has remained one of my favourite actors because of this role delivering a hauntingly chilling performance in both movies simply skip or forget the third part exists it terrible.
