Hey all,
As I put the finishing touches to my debut horror novel, I was wondering what experiences anyone here had of trying to get published?
Are there any publishers you would recommend?
What frustrations have you had?

Hi mate, congratulations on finishing your first horror novel. It's an accomplishment I've always meant to acheive, but saying it and doing it are two different things. Make sure to tell us if you are able to get it published.
How long did it take you from start to finish?
I can't therefore personally offer up any helpful experience, but we have a few publihsed posters who drop in here, so maybe they'll find the thread and be able to help.
Most of all Good Luck with it! :)

Great news, spiral. I've recently completed my third screenplay and am in search of a buyer/agent. Well done to stick it out. The Blank Page should be its own horror story.
A bit of an aside, but I've always wondered what it would be like to record your own audio DVD of your novel. It might be a great way to get it out there, as there are a number of ways to market it without withstanding the gauntlet of outside entities.
Anyway, congrats and well done!

Thanks, guys... It's something I needed to do, I guess! John, if you have one in you, you'll get round to writing it some day...
How long did it take you from start to finish?
I started writing it, pretty much from scratch, about 5 months ago. I've usually written a bit each night, usually for an hour or two... so you do need some form of committment to it.
To be honest, though, I've found it a lot less painful and frustrating a process so far than I thought.
I'm editing now, which has mainly involved me adding to the length as opposed to taking away, but it's standing at 60 K words at present.
Hopefully this thread could be somewhere we could share all our experiences of trying to get published, whether it's a screenplay or novel... :)
