O.K. guess I better get the ball rolling, these forums are deader than Dracula's underpants.

My given name is Matt(hew), though online it feels far stranger to be called that than John...
I've just turned 32 (guh!), and am the 'Mastermind' behind Horror Express. I'm a self taught web designer, and decided to dive in the deep end and create HE almost 3 months ago, a month after beginning to learn web programming.

I've been a Horror fan since about the age of 8 when I loved all the Hammer Horror films (Christopher Lee is god) and the much older Black and White stuff. The last film to scare the shit out of me was the 70's 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' at the age of about 12.

I'm English (from the North East, but most definitely NOT a Geordie!).
I have a lot of hobbies.
Music - eclectic tastes, mostly metal (Skyclad, Rammstein, Linkin Park) but not all (VAST, some Electronica, some Classical)
I'm a huge NFL fan (Go Bears!) and play a lot of online poker.

So far so good... My name is Dave aka dhrupick and I'm a huge horror fan. I have a special place in my heart for bad zombie movies and watch at least 2-3 every week. I live in Ohio and I'm also a huge NFL fan who regularly gets his heart ripped out by the Cleveland Browns. Well I look forward to posting and wish you luck!

JohnShaft

Thanks Dave, welcome to HE and thanks for jumping in and posting in this barren wasteland.

I can sympathise with those Browns, but hell the Bears ripped out my heart and ate it this season! How can you go from 13-3 to 4-12 in one year is beyond me. However I still can't figure out how the Browns let Pittsburgh win the wildcard game. Very tough loss, though Holcomb was a big bright spot.

On the subject of Zombie movies I've got Japanese Zombie flick Junk on hand to see any day. I'm hoping that if it's bad at least it's in a good way!

dhrupick
01-08-2003, 12:31 AM
I liked Junk a lot. The only Asian Zombie movie I've seen that I really didn't care for was Bio-Zombie. As far as Junk Goes, I'd place it right in between Versus and Wild Zero as my favorites. In that order. As far as the Brown go, I'm used to the torture and hope that Holcomb is now the starter.

JohnShaft
01-08-2003, 01:12 AM
Definitely get round to watching Junk pretty quick then, and then reviewing it I guess! I was thinking of gettting Versus too, so glad that sounds good.

And be grateful you have two decent Quarterbacks (Couch just about counts?). At the Bears we've got two utterly mediocre veterans and a CFL'er who looks utterly clueless.
God am I praying we get Byron Leftwich in this years draft...

John, you a Mackem? Please say no... ;)

I'm from ZombieKeeper, like Dhrupick, and LivingDeadGirl.

I have loved Horror ever since watching Alien very young, and being introduced to the Hammer Films by my Dad.

Hey John, just popped over from ZK to say what's up and commend you for a fine lookin' site. I am from Buffalo,N.Y. and a huge NFL fan also. Thank god the Bills have Bledsoe! Anyway i'll be back to post !

You can breath easy mate, I can thank God I'm not a Mackem, but a Teesider. Up the Boro! :D

Thanks for joining the HE forums guys. It's starting to look not quite so dead in here!

And as for Bledsoe Shokkerr, what a great job you guys did getting him. I was pretty dissapointed the Bears expressed no interest in him at all. As I think he proved this year he still turned out to be a bargain, and he's got a few pretty damn good seasons left in him too.

It's starting to feel like Buffalo *here* atm, sub zero temperatures and snow on the ground. Damn I hate English weather!

Hi there I'm Gary, and I'm a student currently residing in Birmingham, although I'm actually just a southern softy who is from High Wycombe, just north of London.

I, like JohnShaft, am a self taught web designer. I've been doing web design for about 4 years and I'm currently running a site called ZSOA (http://zsoa.com) which started as a place to show my flash movie 'talents' and has now evolved into more of a horror themed site and now has reviews, articles etc. But the site isn't really horror oriented, just artistically influenced by it. Check out The Blue Blob series for mindless slasher fun!

My interests include guitars and thrash metal (I'm a total 80's metalhead) and obviously horror movies and the afformentioned web design.

This is a very nice looking site your doing here. Here's to a long life for Horror Express!

Welcome ZK (dumpers indeed!) & Gary.

Looks like we have pretty similar tastes in music Gary. I too became a metalhead in the 80's. Saw some great bands live back then, plenty of Thrash - Sepultura, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Death etc and of course Metallica, Megadeth.
Don't think metals been the same since then but maybe I'm just getting old!
I even had delusions of becoming a guitarist, but that lasted only until I realised I wasn't going to be the next Joe Satriani.

Looks like a nice site you have there too, gonna check it out properly later.

Thanks for joining the forums!

<===== AHHHH!! Another ZK slacker! RUN!!

My name is Abby but you may call me LDG. I am a student from St.Paul, MN. (I know what happened to the Bears, they stole the Vikings playbook :D ). In addition to horror movies I enjoy shopping, music(Korn, Rob Zombie, Ozzy, Metallica), video games, volleyball and cartoons(sealab, southpark, family guy, classic simpsons). I have enjoyed horror movies ever since a friend made me watch Hellbound:Hellraiser II when I was nine(scared the crap outta me). I look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks for coming over to do a little posting from ZK. All help to liven up these boards is very much appreciated!

And Abby about that Vikings playbook the Bears have. Ask them if they want it back, okay?

Dear God, this is getting embarassing. Here, people have been finally opening up the forums and having a good discussion and dare I say, sharing. And how many posts have I made? None. Zilch. A big "Mork calling Orson"-sized goosegg. And I work here.

Well, that's all going to change right now. Ad nauseum.

My name, as it says, is Scott W. Davis. Born in New York, raised through early childhood in New Jersey and currently living in Minnesota. Been fascinated by film since an early age. In the last five years of my life, horror has become a bit of an obsession of mine and I've been gobbling up every little bit as it comes. Normally, the video rental chains don't like it when you gobble their movies, so I've had to make friends with eBay.

Other interests: I read constantly and of course, I write. Endlessly and with vague purpose but I do write. Love music, fave band being Concrete Blonde, as it has been for the last eleven years, but having a pretty wide array of interests.

Got started on the net when most people of my generation did, in college. First place I frequented regularly was the old Mystery Science Theater 3000 site, Caption This!, where I capped Sci-fi Channel screengrabs under the name TravisBickle for a few years. Good times, but I haven't been back in a couple years. Since then, I've become a regular poster on the volatile alt.horror newsgroup, under the name loucyphre ( If you can guess what those two handles have in common, you get a cookie. ).

I always enjoyed reviewing films but never really gave a shot at producing anything besides what I had written for my high school and college newspapers. For a while, I was working in the television news industry as an Associate Producer ( it sounds higher up than it is ). Got laid off a little over a year ago and the company I worked for has since gone belly up. Around that time, I started writing here and there. After a couple aborted attempts, I sent a few feelers out but hadn't really expected much. As a lark, I posted one of the reviews on alt.horror and got the attention of some crazed internet Nazi named JohnShaft. You heard of him? :D He gave me this great opportunity and the rest is history.

Whew, okay that took a bit longer than I was expecting but there you go. Glad to be a part of Horror Express and thankful for everyone who has shown an interest. More to come, trust me.

Here was me thinking you were a fellow Englishman Scott! :o
(Must have been that "Booze-addled British boys" in your alt.horror sig)

The Associate Producer bit sounds really interesting too, despite your assertions otherwise. Damn sight more interesting than the limited working experience I've had...

Now you've blown my cover as a crazed internet Nazi I think it's time for me to go Marathon Man on yo' ass though.
Where did I put that dentists drill...

Scott W. Davis

IT'S NOT SAFE! IT'S NOT SAFE!!! :D

But seriously folks, yes, I am an American. But alas, we all have our shameful secrets. The "booze-addled British boys" line was a shout-out to the regulars of alt.horror and sums up many of the personalities on the board, I'm sure you'll agree. In the beginning on alt.horror, I had to keep a page of British obscenities bookmarked to reference but I consider myself much more cultured now. :erm:

The Associate Producer bit was at a satelite news gathering agency, and it mainly consisted of getting on the phone to different television stations around the country, finding out what news items they had that would be of national relevance and arranging to bring them into our station via satelite. We would then send it back out to the other stations. Exciting huh? Still, this is how someone in Nevada could hear about wild fires in Florida and I had to basically keep my ear out to about fifty different people a night, just in case. I also wrote the news copy that was used in some of the broadcasts and I edited several entertainment features and conducted a few celebrity interviews ( my fave part of the job, shameless whore that I am  ).

Also, the place was connected to a news channel, along the same lines as CNN's Headline News but much smaller. I wrote stories for them, edited file video, ran teleprompter and was floor director for a lot of their broadcasts - which mainly involved cameras and taking instructions from the control booth.

While I was kind of burnt out on TV news after a while, my background still is film and video production so I looked far and wide for jobs in this area of the country. But alas, they were few and far between and I may be looking elsewhere. Another strange thing is that in that time, I've rediscovered how much I love writing so my next big step into a hopefully lucrative field might be something that utilizes those assets.

Hi, everyone . . . I'm new here, figured I'd introduce myself . . . .

My name is James, I'm 29 years old, and I live in North Carolina (USA). I've been a horror fanatic ever since I was about 4 years old, when my father (in a classic example of bad parenting? Nahh, I don't think so, but some might disagree) took me to the movies to see THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN and, later, to the drive-in to see the original HALLOWEEN.

Thanks, Dad! :)

These days I'm a writer, slowly but surely pulling myself up out of the small press to try and make a living in the genre that I love. I've had one screenplay optioned in the past (not horror, more of a crime thriller-type thing called BAD ROAD), though the movie was never made. I've had short stories published in numerous small-press magazines, and recently my popular novella HOLY ROLLERS (2001 Bram Stoker Award contender) was published as an audiobook by Lone Wolf Publications (www.lonewolfpubs.com). 'ROLLERS is a lot of fun, as it's not just any old audiobook, but a "movie for your ears" featuring the story read by yours truly and featuring sound-effects and original music composed and produced by yours truly.

Getting into a lot of that lately, in addition to my writing. Scoring audiobooks. It's a lot of fun, and it's turning into a lucrative little business (currently contracted with Endeavor Press: www.endeavorpress.net). Some of my main influences in that area are John Carpenter, Howard Shore, Trent Reznor, and Clint Mansell.

But shit, enough of the shameless plugging!

Hmm . . . what else can I say about myself?

A few of my favorite writers include Stephen King, Bentley Little, Joe R. Lansdale, Ed Gorman and F. Paul Wilson. A few of my favorite movies include: THE EXORCIST and THE EXORCIST III: LEGION, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, SE7EN, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, HALLOWEEN, John Carpenter's THE THING, RE-ANIMATOR, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (both versions), RINGU (both versions), HELLRAISER, the EVIL DEAD trilogy, and LORD OF ILLUSIONS.

Jeez . . . I've rambled on long enough. Hope I didn't put you guys to sleep!

Thanks for listening, in any event, and I look forward to talking horror with other like-minded sickos. :)

Time to introduce myself -

Been a horror fan all my life, probably due to the fact that my mom read me Edgar Allen Poe as bedtime stories.

I prefer the original Grimm Fairy Tales, and I hate a Hollywood ending. Life is pain, and horror films illustrate that better than any of that Sandra Bullock claptrap.

Or, maybe I just like to be scared.

So here I am, trying to keep abreast of horror happenings, finding out about the scary stuff coming to local theaters, and joining a community of like-minded people.

Hi, all!

JohnShaft

Hi OneBadGungan! :)
Nice to see a another new face on the boards. I bid you welcome!

I was just thinking the other day of a few of my favourite horror movies and realised that the majority share one thing in common. In the end evil triumphs. So I'm with you on hating Hollywood endings.

I've been meaning to read Poe thoroughly for years, but in my youth I latched on to that other great 19th century American Horror writer, H.P. Lovecraft. I'll never forget reading At The Mountains of Madness for the first time, and thinking "Damn. I've never read anything like this before!".

This is the perfect place to find out about everything new happening in the horror movie world, or to read reviews of said movies. Not to mention the chance to win free stuff! (Look out for our THE EYE competition tomorrow)

OK, have I pimped enough yet? :afro:

Hope you stick around Gungan, I look forward to chatting horror with you, and thanks for joining our growing community. We appreciate it.

DEVILMAN signing on here...

First things first, I moderate an Asian entertainment (mainly genre films) board called THE CHOPHOUSE (http://www.fanboy.info/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=messageindex;start=0), so check it out if you're interested in the wild, wacky, and wooly world of the Asian Cinema.

Anyway...

My Interests Include: Seeing gorgeous Asian chicks covered in blood, catching the NEW YORK GIANTS on tv trying to have a winning season, playing the newest video game installment of RESIDENT EVIL (known by it's Japanese name as BIOHAZARD), and when I'm not trying to bury all the dead bodies in my backyard, I try to catch a horror flick or two and chit chat on internet message boards.

My Turn On's: Seeing gorgeous Asian chicks covered in blood, a mouth watering French Dip sandwich with Au Jus, and any horror movie that gives up the chunkblow effect.

My Turn Off's: Horror movies that refuse to share the sauce, a NEW YORK GIANTS loosing season, and any Asian movie that won't gratuitously exploit it's actresses in their birthday suits.

Favorite Films Include: BATTLE ROYALE (the GREATEST movie ever made!), SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (the ONLY war movie worth watching!), the Japanese Anime television series COWBOY BEBOP (subtitled, not dubbed mind you!), ANOTHER HEAVEN (Japanese gals crying blood puts me in HEAVEN!), and TANK GIRL (the BEST comic-turned-movie I've seen!).

Favorite Movie Directors Include: TAKASHI MIIKE (AUDITION, ICHI THE KILLER, and DEAD OR ALIVE), LUC BESSON (LEON THE PROFESSIONAL, THE FIFTH ELEMENT, and THE MESSENGER), JOHN WOO (THE KILLER and HARDBOILED), DAVID FINCHER (THE GAME, SE7EN, and FIGHT CLUB), JOHNNIE TO (FULLTIME KILLER, THE MISSION, and RUNNING OUT OF TIME), and ANDREW LAU (A MAN CALLED HERO, THE STORMRIDERS, and THE DUEL).

Favorite Actors Include: ANDO MASANOBU (from BATTLE ROYALE and THE RED SHADOW), GARY OLDMAN (from LEON THE PROFESSIONAL and STATE OF GRACE), ANDY LAU (from FULLTIME KILLER and RUNNING OUT OF TIME), DEVILMAN (the Japanese animated character), and AL PACINO (from SCARFACE and THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE).

Favorite Actresses Include: AIKA MIURA (from numerous Japanese AV IDOL porn films!), MILLA JOVOVICH (from THE FIFTH ELEMENT and RESIDENT EVIL, ZHANG ZIYI (from CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON and RUSH HOUR 2), LEXA DOIG (from ANDROMEDA and JASON X), and WITCH HUNTER ROBIN (the Japanese animated character).

So, what do ya think? Should I be hospitalized now or later?

I've got so many Asian Horror flicks to catch up on myself that I don't know where to start.
Just caught BATTLE ROYALE on TV for the first time a few days ago. Very enjoyable film, and I'll definitely be looking to catch BR2.

Hi there.
I'm a youngish female from northern England. I got into horror when videos were first available as my dad had his own rental shop. When the VRA came out he took all the 'nasties' home so I had a very scarey childhood! I am currently in the process of purchasing my old favourites on DVD and watching them all again which is great fun. I particularly like zombie and cannibal movies but am not really impressed with most modern horror (especially the Teen Slashers) I do like Japanese stuff (Ringu, darkwater, the eye etc) and am also looking forward to House of 1000 corpses and Cabin fever. I dont have much time for any other hobbies really but enjoy reading just about anything (not romance though!).

If I had to pick, I'd say zombie flicks are my fave. I read a lot of Koontz, King and for some reason detective stories. My hobbies are Shooting, hiking, reading, martial arts, restoring my old toyota 4X4, and playing with my bulldogs. I am a general contractor for a living, and I spend a lot of time out in the middle of the desert. :) :teeth:

Hi all, i've been a horror fan since I was a small child. I also like anything to do with the supernatural. I've belonged to a ghosthunting group for over a year now but no ghost has shown itself to me yet! I still have fun with it though. I see there are other 80's rock fans in here! Count me in on that too. Any of you remember Jeff Scott Soto from Yngwie? I have a yahoo group for him. Hi Teri. :D

Us 80's Rockers have to stick together I reckon. I'm downloading some Jeff Scott Soto from his site now, on your recommendation. I must admit he does sound exactly as he did on Yngwie's mid 80's debut. Which is good news. I'll definitely give it a good listen.

The NFL? Wellll. The Mid 80's Bears team was big news here. A lot of people got into the NFL in the UK then, as we had a weekly highlite show that had just started. Now we get a couple of live games a week. Hell I used to stay up till 5AM listening on the radio to the Bears playing live. I've got Blue and Orange running through my veins. :football:

And Ghosthunting huh? That sounds interesting.
I have the dimmest of child memories of seeing a ghost, at about the age of 4. I think I'd probably be scared s**less if I saw one now though! :ghost:

Oh, and a VERY big welcome to the Forums. :flowers:
Which I'm sure goes for the other guys too. As soon as they get here. B)

Welcome Caleb.
Make yourself at home. And I'll catch up with you tomorrow after some sleep.

I look forward to seeing your review on the site. And may there be many more!

How about letting us know a little more about you? Where you're from, what you like to do, your favourite movies, how and why you got interested in Horror. The usual deal.

Well I am from Tennessee. It is a small town that NOONE has heard of. It is about 45 miles from Memphis where I commute to school. It is my fourth year of torture. I am a Computer Engineer major. I work at an electric company where I do the mapping for our system. All that 'necessary' stuff keeps me from watching movies as much as I like though. I have been in horror for my entire life. I really have too many favorite movies to list. My favorite director is Argento. I go by argento_nut on other message boards. I basically love all aspects of horror. It is my passion.

Okay. Here goes:

I first fell for horror and sci-fi movies back in the 80s as a kid. (I'm 25 now). This was due, in part, to the fact that I share my middle and last name with the first and last name of Sigourney Weaver's character in the Alien films. My first name is Jen, but my middle name is Ellen and last in Ripley. I usually am referred to as Ripley, even by friends and some family members.

At any rate, once I learned of the character's name, I wanted to see Alien. Once I did, I fell in love with horror.

Ah well, that's enough rambling out of me for now.

Welcome Ripley!
Wow, imagine being called Ellen Ripley, especially before the movie came out. God, that is too cool for words!
It's nice to see another new face on the Forum. I hope you stick around and post some more.

Tennessee huh Caleb? Does that make you a Titans fan, or is Football not your bag? If you are I'm envious of you having such a great QB as McNair. The Bears would kill for him.

Nice to know we've Borged another poster from the Fango boards Caleb, even if Shadow hasn't posted in a while. I'll have to drop her a PM.

EDIT: With a bit of detective work I've tracked down Ms. Ripley on the Fango boards too! Was that a gentle suggestion by you Caleb, or just the all-powerful Sig at work? B)

Either way, a great big Horror Express welcome to you both!
EDIT2: Oh, and guys if either of you have any ideas on what you think the Forums, or Main Site, feel free to post suggestions and I'll make my best effort to get it done. One thing on my "To Do" list is a new skin (pref. Black) for the Forum. We've only just changed hosts and upgraded the Forum, which is why we're back on the default skin.

Where should i start?

My name is Alex, i'm 20 years old and originally from Glasgow, Scotland but have lived in Middlesbrough, England pretty much all my life. I'm currently at Teesside University studying Crime Scene Science.

I got into the film world back when i was about 9 when i watched Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. I say film world because i wouldn't really count Disney's Robin Hood a film, it's maybe more of an extended animated love story. :dummy: Anyway, i first got into the horror films when i was 11 when i was on holiday in Derbyshire and me and my dad watched The Thing with Kurt Russell, kinda scared the :censored: out of me but hey, it's all good. Ever since then i have never looked back, never really been scared badly until i watched Ring O and when i read into the Mothman Prophecies, some spooky stuff went on in Point Pleasant, that's for sure.

The best most recent horror movie in my opinion is either the remake of Ring or possibly Wrong Turn, the film had potential but the ending left it wide open for a pointless and predictable sequel which will fail like almost all sequels of horror.

The greatest horror movie of all time in my opinion has to be either John Carpenters Prince of Darkness or possibly Ring O.

Best film of all time in my opinion is a contest between three titles, Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi, Gladiator (yes i know we all hate Crowe), or Heat because De Niro is possibly one of the greatest actors of all time.

My interests include Rugby, Golf, Football (pure Glasgow Rangers fan), listening to music (mainly Trance, Hard House and Classical), going to the Cinema, spending time with my mates, modifying my car, going to Kroozes, collecting Disney porcelain figures (the rare one's that cost a ridiculous amount) and of course collecting DVD's. Currently i have 112 DVD's and 109 Videos all fully legitimate (no copies) and 65 recorded films on Video.

If you managed to read all the above, you'll know pretty much everything there is to know about me apart from what i look like.

i live in los angeles and my favorite thing to do is to watch movies. i think the horror genre is the most honest one and i also think that the're a lot of films that could qualify as pure horror and not have a drop of blood in them. i do enjoy lots of gushing blood though. i make videos and paint and write and do lots of creative things. i am proud to say that everything i generate always has an element of gore in it. anyway, kindred spirits, looking forward to your company.

Great! A place to make fun of myself. :)

My name's Patricia, I'm 25 and I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina (need a map? that's South South America).

I think I got sucked up into horror films after the first Nightmare in Elm St. movie, and eventually watched some classics like Dracula thanks to my older cousins, who used to torture me with those films. Let's not forget Friday 13th movies and Poltergeist, for example.

Currently I am making my way into Asian horror. Yes, blame the Ringu trilogy. I've seen some, like The Eye, Vortex, Versus (that's 2 hours I'm not going to get back!), Ju-On and I guess that's it. But I'm enjoying it. :)

I've tried to take the Dario Argento tour, too, but I've only seen Suspiria so far and found it extremelly bizarre and amusing instead of scary. I am also a member of that 'find a scary horror movie' quest. It doesn't mean that I haven't enjoyed some of the films I've seen recently. Maybe I just have some sort of heart attack death wish or something.

That's pretty much it. Did I make fun of myself or what?

Great sub-genre. There's been so much utterly refreshing output from the Far East as of late I think it's keeping the whole genre afloat.

I've only seen Suspiria so far and found it extremelly bizarre and amusing instead of scary. I am also a member of that 'find a scary horror movie' quest.
I'll own up to first seeing SUSPIRIA only about a year or two ago. TBH I enjoyed it. It was extremely bizarre, but that was what I expected. I think, considering it's age, it still holds up rather well. The Goblin score was a big plus for me.

As for looking for a scary movie have you had chance to catch SESSION 9 yet? While more creepy and unsettling, than jump out of your seat scary, it is definitely a very effecting film. If you get the chance watch it on your own late at night with the lights out.

Hi Gang

My name is Tim and I currently exist in Cleveland. I have written some freelance articles for my friend / artist and his gothic lifestyle magazine, DARK REALMS (check out his stuff at monolithgraphics.com). I attend Horror conventions in the area, FrightVision and Cinema Wasteland (both the same weekend this year).

I have written horror stories that are stacked up near my useless and non-functioning iMac at the moment, including a horror screenplay. I could be accused of ripping off "Underworld" except that is was copyrighted in 1994 (and conceived far longer than that) ... but if anyone would actually want to read it, let me know.

I'm a fan of all horror, old and new, expensive and cheap, & good and bad. I don't read as much horror as I should and someday plan to catch up with all the books I buy.

Favorite Horror Films:
Fright Night
Phantasm
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Pumpkinhead
Hellraiser
The Howling
American Werewolf in London
The Exorcist
Dawn of the Dead
Return of the Vampire
Scanners
IT! Terror from Beyond Space
Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein
Creature from the Black Lagoon (in 3D)
Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D
Halloween 2

... to name a few, as well as a fan of Dark Shadows and Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Other favorite movies: Braveheart, Superman: The Movie, Tootsie, The Color Purple, Pink Floyd's The Wall, Duck Soup. TV shows: NewsRadio, Cheers, The Andy Griffith Show (B7W only), Star Trek and Next Generation.

Other info & interests: Graduate of Ohio University ... love sports (all teams Cleveland plus the Dallas Cowboys --- long live the Cleveland Rockers, who I covered for a sports website for a while) ... fan of British humor ... love rock music (AC/DC, Ozzy, Joan Jett, Iron Maiden, Journey, Foo Fighters and local underground friends Cobra Verde, --- and many others) ... love comic books i.e., graphic novels.

And like being long-winded, lol. There's me in a small nutshell. Love to chat or correspond with other people at home with Horror Express!

Hi, I'm Jill,

I'm 37, with two kids under the age of three, a husband who plays ice hockey and I have been a fan of horror since I saw the 2nd Friday the 13th (you know the one with the head in fridge). My other defining moment was when Psycho was being shown on tv and my dad wouldn't let me watch it because it was too scary. Yeah, like I would listen to THAT!

Anyway, I have a degree in film theory and criticism (wrote many a paper on the social implications of horror films), used to attend conventions like Fangoria, I live in Los Angeles, work in the film business and would love to hear from real fans about why they like what they like. It is nice to find you all here...

Hi guys n gals.
I am 32 and from N Wales.
Love the whole Horror Express setup.
I have loved horror since being breast fed in front of the Exorcist.
Hammer House of Horror, Twilight Zone were most popular when i was growing up and it was'nt untill me mum started me of on the truly sick horror that i have had to pursue this hobby to date.
I cannot wait to see the new Dawn of the Dead so that i can rate it against the original.
I've a question for anyone ?
Can you get hellraiser Inferno and hellfire on DVD Region 2 ?

You all take it easy and i look forward to chatting with you some more.

Hi, I just registered today. My name is Kristi. I'm 16 years old and have been a horror fan ever since I was 12. The one horror movie that got me into the genre, was The Shining. My favorite horror movie currently is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). I'm kind of new with message boards, so don't mind if I say anything stupid. I would go on and on about myself, but I do't think you would want to read all about someone you don't even know. I know I wouldn't.

Versus took me ages to get hold of a copy but it was worth the wait. It is maybe the funniest thing from the horror genre that i have ever seen.

My real name is Garry and hopefully you will be seeing me name all over the book shops next spring. I have been a big horror fan ever since my mum sat me down when i was ten and let me watch Dario Argento's Inferno. I think it may have twisted my, at the time fragile mind.

I have been reading horror since i was eleven, and also tried out fantasy but found it was always a little on the tame side. My first novel will be called Heaven's falling and it should hopefully bring fantasy and horror together for a generation wanting something a little bizarre and dosed to the eyeballs in twisted humour. (blame my mother people).

I'll let you all know when it is finally ready for release and i expect you all to go and buy it.

Hi Rory!
Nice to see another new face here at Horror Express. I hope you continue to stick around. :)

Thanks for pointing out the Avatar problem (I wasn't aware of it) and I'm looking into it now. In the meantime if you have a link to the Avatar you want to use let me know, or if you want to send me it just PM me. I should be able to get the whole problem with it sorted out sooner rather than later anyway.

Im from Hull, England -its the darkest town in the UK; smells of death and is a breeding ground for mutants and demons...

Im also a movie maker. I've written/directed/produced a trilogy of horror fantasy films. There intellectual horror movies that come from the darkest regions of my brain, and the fact that I live in Hull. I used to live in Nottingham but studied fine art here in Hull. I produce comics too - currently creating the sequel to Heathers - Heathers In Hell.

Ive been a Horrorholic since the cradle (now 22) and cant get enough of 80's action/horror/sci-fi/comedy (Society has it all) and also art house/early german expresionist stuff - you dont always need a bucket of pigs blood to be malevolent. Tool, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Devo, Nailbomb etc all rock my boat on the river of the damned. :alien: Snooch to the nooch!

Hello everybody, my name is Louis - I have just joined this site and am looking forward to participating in interesting discussions with you.
The first two horror movies I have watched were "American Werewolf" and "Child's Play", and I really enjoyed it. Actually I always enjoy a good horror film as long as I am in the mood and the movie is not made too funny like "Braindead" - watching "Braindead" aka "Dead Alive" can be fun sometimes, but I would not call it a real horror movie. There are films like "Candyman" and "Halloween" that I prefer.

John, I really like your site - thank you!

Hope everybody is doing fine?!

Welcome Louis, Dead Gurl, crop and vorheesx.
Thanks for becoming part of our forums, and I hope to see you all become regular posters. :D

As for BRAINDEAD, I do see your point. I've always enjoyed most tongue in cheek horror movies, since I first saw Re-Animator. As long as they still provide some scares/gore/chills. But I do sometimes become tired of the certain film-makers in the horror genre thinking they must parody or take the piss out of horror, because no-one takes it seriously any more.

Anyways, I'm 28, and from Ohio. My husband and I are awaiting the birth of our 2nd child....I'm due 11/22. He's not as into horror as I am, although he does love Christopher Lee, and the old Hammer films!

My real name is Luan, and I am from Northern California. I am 26 years old and have been a film lover for most of my life. I enjoy films ranging from horror to drama, action to martial arts (especially the old school ones from Shaw Bros. and the independant mandarin ones). I also love Hong Kong films from the 80's to present, Japanese films, Anime, Korean, and Thai films. I also enjoy independant films and have recently been watching some French New Wave films from Godard, Melville, and Truffaut. I like to listen to underground/independant hip hop, trip hop, down-tempo, classic rock, Jazz, and every now and then, some trance and house. I would like to travel to Europe and Asia one of these days, and just learn about different cultures and meet different people from around the world who shares my interest and love for films.

This is my first post here so hello to you all! Er, are there any so called hazing rituals here that I should be aware of? :woot: Anyhoo...I'm a major horror film fan being particularly fond of European horror cinema, Hammer films and indie '70s American horror fare. And of course David Cronenberg, who I regard as the best living horror film director.

This seems a nice easy going place with not too much heavy traffic. Nice banner too, BTW! :) Hope to get to know you all around the forums...God, I'm beginning to sound like somebody writing a pen pal letter! :pinch:

Well what I'm really looking forward to at the moment is The Daleks returning to the new series of Dr Who. I hear last Saturday night's episode caused 60 complaints. And I missed it to boot! Hazing rituals? Hmm, if there is any then Unconscious is definitely the one to watch out for.

This seems a nice easy going place with not too much heavy traffic.Damn. You've discovered our dark secret already. Here's me aiming for global domination and we still look like a party no-one wants to go to. :(

Nice banner too, BTW! :)Thank you, thank you. Though I must admit I'm rather tired of it, and have been threatening to change it and the site for some time.

Well what I'm really looking forward to at the moment is The Daleks returning to the new series of Dr Who. Me too. I hope they can update them without changing them too much. I'm waiting to see this hover thing they're supposed to be able to do now. I guess they needed something to combat all the "run up the stairs" jokes.
Davros is the guy I'm really hoping to see soon though!

Still, there will never be another Jon Pertwee!Ahh, you've definitely dated yourself there, which is no bad thing.

Hope you stick around man. You sound like someone with similar tastes (and a similar age!) as myself, so you can't be all bad. :D

I generally express myself poorly with introductions, but I am glad to be here. Obviously I am a *huge* fan of horror movies. I enjoy the cult classics that eveyone here already owns. My collection is getting quite respectable. I have no problem with post 1990 horror, as long as very little CGI is involved. My favorite target now is the 80's. My collection is lacking in that area.
Out of the Dark, Night of the Demons, Reanimator and Candyman come to mind as my general collecting "taste" for now. After that section is complete I am going waaaay obscure. Is Frankenhooker horror? LOL. Thanks you, BOBO the Killer Clown.

Hmm my name is John..but since we all got nicknames...mine is "Maso" In Filipino it means something like sledge hammer...lol...Kay I am canadian, living in teh Philippines for about 3 months now...good lord help me. Thank god I have found more horror movies here, both western and eastern then ever in my life..So my passion was brought back....and now I am raging and fighten the zombies all over.
If i could be any monster (which should be a topic or at least a poll) I would choose zombie...though vampire is my second choice.
I am currently trying to put some bucks togther to make a killer (of course I have to say its the best) low budget badly acted zombie flick here...hey I am bored and its dirt cheap....umm I love this board, and the asian japanese girl discussion...hmm lol...whatever.
anyhow...the onyl regret is I didnt complain long enough abotu SPIDER...GRRRR freakin freak freak...and my favourite read currently...

WALKING DEAD comic..nicely nicely i must say.
anyhow...my spelling sucks, i am a nice guy and i dont bite...much.

Eugh.

It appears- after nearly a year of registering at these forums- I have no introduced myself.

I'm Chris, 13 year old web designer from England [Essex].

I run Doom 3 Unlimited, maintain a hacking group, company, and help out with movie editing from time to time.

I know advanced HTML, DHTML, and I know a little javascript. ;) I'm also learning to use C++.

I like Black Metal music, [Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Burzum, etc], but also listen to a little Death Metal [In Flames].

My typical sense of "clothing style" is:
Leather ankle length Trenchcoat.
Black jeans.
Black steel-tipped combat boots.
Fingerless gloves.
Ammo belt.

You know Johnshaft, we really ought to make a official "POST YOUR PICTURE" thread.

Hello all, my name is Juan Rayo, from Honduras, Centro América! I'm 32 years old, a sociologyst, amateur astronomist, byker and climber. And horror movies fan, of course.

Great site! you guys need to catch in a Honduras own made 'Horror movie" called ALMAS DE LA MEDIA NOCHE (Souls of midnight). Man it's so bad it deserves a special place in any collection! A kid had this Idea for a movie, he had NO directing or Camara experience WHATSOEVER, only an idea. He started asking for money to do it, and somehow got people in the private sector (and the goverment) to make a whoping 3 million lempiras movie (hmm, some US200,000 I believe). That is a BLOCKBUSTER production for my country, folks.

In any case, the lack of directing experience SHOWS, heh, why, I do believe he could give Dr. Uwe a run for his money! (yes, I saw both House of the dead and Alone in the dark...) and the acting.. oh well, maybe I should just write a review, heh

not sure if it's out in DVD yet..

Dr West

I've been thinking of seeing it but havn't got around to yet. Whats it like?

Juan Rayo
06-18-2005, 11:47 AM
Oh man Dr. West, how to answer that... probably should open a new thread, but here goes:

Cannibal Holocaust is a cheap italian made (1979 I think) "Cannibal" movie with a grudge against the lack of ethics and humanity of western media. I believe that is this fact (the "message", hammered as it is) that works in favor of the movie elevating it well above others of the genre: it's not gore for the sake of gore, there is a REASON for it.

That said, Director Ruggero Deodato did some VERY disgusting things (for real) to animals while filming this movie. The effect is pretty efective actually: because the cruel and ghastly dead of animals is so obviously REAL and not any kind of effect, it gives more power to the scenes in which people are the ones being killed. BUT, to me, it STILL does not excuse what transpires: the camera zooming in, taking pleasure at the slow and very painfull killing of various beasts.

And I think it's at this point that you will decide whether you can see it or not: I love animals, my dog IS my friend and if someone hurt him I would descend on the culprit like the wrath of all vengefull gods of every.single.religion.in human.history. So, to me, it was VERY HARD watching those scenes. After that, the "human" and faked violence didn't really shock me. So, if you figure you can stomach those few scenes, go for it.

Don't take my word for it though. There is a great review right here at HE on "Cannibal Holocaust". It pretty much mirrors my own view: horror movies are at their best when then reflect something about our society and times, making the terror feel more visceral: a species thing, not just a personal thing. Sorry for the rant.

Dr West
06-18-2005, 03:27 PM
It's good to know that there are still some Directors are willing to push the boundaries of filmaking. I'm allways on the lookout for a more shocking film to add to my DVD collection.

And I was going to ask the very same question as the good Doctor (thanks Doc!). So thanks for answering.

I was going to ask because I also have not seen CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. Very deliberately so. But I'm going to post that bit in the CH thread from a couple of days ago. I think you're the best one to answer my question, being that you've just seen it for the first time.

hi my name's ivy and i have a horror addiction. actually very recently i became facinated with the idea of horror porn. a friend and i spent last night wistfully coming up with hot and bloody scenerios. i have a special place in my heart for zombies, and i've just begun my newest peice of art around undead rock stars. on the list : jim morrison (finished), john lennon, and janis joplin. more to come. vampires really must be the greatest thing ever created. theres nothing i enjoy more than pale skin, well kept hair and fashion, and blood. weather being sucked, spewed or splattered, vampires are a general thumbs up. i listen to a lot of music, but most anything with a moog and/or synth turns my crank. some bands include: death from above, the white stripes, my chemical romance, whirlwind heat, tranzistors, franz ferdinand, soledad brothers, elliot smith, and muse.

Hello there. I figured I should pop my head in here before hitting the boards. Hmm..a few things about me...

Well, I am 25 and from South Carolina. I recently was working in correlation with Donald M. Grant, Publisher on organizing the first annual PalaverCon, the only Stephen King Dark Tower convention in existence. We had the event a few weeks ago and it went beautifully. Right now I am currently in the process of starting a small press, and with any luck I'll have the first issue of the mag on sale this coming Spring. I am mainly here because I love horror, but also because I want to stay closely connected with horror fans and find out their likes and dislikes and their overall feeling about the genre. I think this may be a good place to do that.

That's it for now. :)
