THE EXORCIST is possibly the greatest horror film ever made. But I admit when I heard William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin were suing Warner Bros., I wasn't interested. They have, after all, done it before.
But the reasons why they are suing has peaked my interest. Blatty and Friedkin's previous lawsuit contended that Warners failed to compensate the two for the successful re-release of THE EXORCIST a couple years back. This new lawsuit, however, is from something entirely different.
Warner Bros., a division of AOL/Time-Warner sold the rights to their sister cable stations, TNT and TBS. The reason? A big mini-series remake.
Yes, another remake, this time of THE EXORCIST. For cable.
In a move we all should have seen coming, not one red cent went to Friedkin (who directed the classic film) and Blatty (who wrote the novel and screenplay).
If there is any movement on this project, or in the lawsuit, we will let you know. TNT is also the cable station behind the 'SALEM'S LOT remake in the works.
