No, it's not the Sondheim musical but it does feature some fairy tale-like things. has info on the next film from M. Night Shyamalan, director of THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE (my fave of his) and SIGNS.
The film is called THE WOODS and as usual, we don't know much about Shyamalan's plans as of yet. In a major departure, the film takes place in the mid-1800s. It involves a old community and the woods immediately surrounding it. In those woods lives, "a mythical race of creatures." Sounds interesting.
No one has been signed on the cast yet. But the film is likely to feature the extremely overpraised Ashton Kutcher starring alongside Kirsten Dunst (SPIDER-MAN, BRING IT ON) and Joaquin Phoenix (GLADIATOR, SIGNS).
Filming begins in Philadelphia in October. As usual, Disney is thrilled to have the project. In some intriguing baiting, Disney rep Nina Jacobson said, "I'd say the time lapse between us reading the script and greenlighting the movie was 45 seconds."
