Figured I'd start a thread to talk about the new VBulletin forum software and what you all think of it. Which parts you like better now, and which you preferred on the old software.

There's a few things I'm still planning on installing, but there's already some things I like a lot about this, just from a superficical point.

You can quick-edit your posts without having to leave the page (it uses AJAX for those who are up on programming languages) so there's no excuse for lazy mistakes. :p
I can't quite figure out how to do a quick reply though, as it seems to want me to hit some other option, which sort of defies the whole point of 'quick'.

So, come on, let me have it. And I won't feel too bad about wasting the £100 if you have negative things to say. Just don't hit me with a "It sucks like Jenna Jameson, John!".

Yeah it does take a little getting used to. I've used this forum software on other boards before, so it's not so bad for me though.

I am curious though what trips people up so I can sort it out. For one thing there doesn't seem to be an easy link to reset your password, so I think I'll add that to the welcome message until most people have done it.

BTW for those who want to use the Quick Reply, the icon to hit to activate it is in each post at the bottom right (right of Edit and Quote). Hit that then you can type in it. I think I'll try and change it so you don't even need to do that, as I don't see the point in it.

One thing I do love about this is all the menus that allow you to select your option without having to be taken to another page to choose it. VB uses a lot of dynamic HTML whereas IPB used none.

EDIT: I've just made this post in Quick Reply AND Edited it without even leaving the page. Loving that.

The new layout just through me completely threw me. So I had to really concentrate on finding my way around. But thats just me I'm easily thrown

I posted this in another thread but I'll mention it here to. Recent versions of vBulletin will auto-resize any image you want to use on your hard drive for your avatar.

Mine was 175x175. The forum automatically resized it to 150x150

Change is good.

Although the process to getting back is a pain in the arse. But other than that it was pretty painful.

Still I'm loving VB atm. It's just streets ahead of what we were running before. And there's still Modifications that are out there I have the capability to add. Just as soon as I determine what we could really benefit from.

Thanks for dropping back in. :)

How about some different forum skins. I like forums with dark backgrounds and white text.

How about some different forum skins. I like forums with dark backgrounds and white text.V, yeah, we need one. We've had 'em before, but not for some time. I know it's what everyone and his brother does with a horror site, and that's why I do my best to do something different. But I know a lot of people want nothing except that traditional look.

I meant to get the main site skin working with the forum, but I've realised that as fiddly as the curves are when I'm coding it, they are twice as bad to make into a forum skin. So I might have to ditch that altogether for the moment.

I'm working on this now. I'll knock up a first draft, sharpish.

Yeah I can understand that. Bloody Disgusting is a good example. Or CHUD.

If you want it unique maybe you could play with the text fonts just as long as it is still easy to read.

Plus I've never seen any of them that let you choose styles. We used to have a few options at one time. For the main site at least.

OK, well I've done the first draft of a black style. You should be able to check it out by selecting it at the bottom left of the page.

Let me know what you think. :afro:
