I caught a glimpse of a new NBC television series called SURFACE and was curious if anyone knew anything about it.

I had read some time ago that since the LOST tv series was so popular, the networks were going to pump out lots of genre related series to compete for ratings. Some that I already know about are THE NIGHT STALKER starring Stuart Townsend (a remake of the old Kolchak show), SUPERNATURAL, GHOST WHISPERER (starring Jennifer Love Hewitt), and REUNION (some sort of Bermuda Triangle mystery).

Anyway, here's yet another upcoming series called SURFACE and it looks to be interesting. It's about some sort of underwater monster race. I did some checking around but haven't found anything about the actual creatures that might show up. Since the cast is pretty young, I kinda think it's gonna suck but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the show.

In a glimpse of hope, there's a Godzilla-styled attack on a sub so SURFACE might be worth watching if the monsters are indeed that big. Kaiju Cinema, this ain't gonna be but it might be worth the look.

Here's the link to the teaser trailer...

Anyone watch any of the new genre related tv shows that debuted last week?

I saw SUPERNATURAL and I gotta say, it was surprisingly entertaining. Mainly because of the Asian horror influences that it had. I hope that's a trend that continues as the series goes on. And wow, Sarah Shahi as the evil ghostly "woman in white", she's yummy. So far, you can call me a fan of the new show.

I recorded THRESHOLD but haven't watched more than twenty minutes of it yet. And from what I remember (I kept falling asleep), it was kinda boring. If you're not familiar with the show, it's some sort of alien invasion series. I guess it's gonna battle for top spot against the other new alien shows, INVASION and SURFACE which debut this coming week.

Recorded SURFACE and finally watched it the other night. I gotta say, the tv critics have got it all wrong. It's a pretty good show, all in all. I'm not too keen on the one story featuring the young boys (it was actually filmed in my hometown) but the rest of the stories certainly kept my attention and when the episode ended, I wanted more.

As for how long they can drag out a mystery story about sea monsters (or possibly aliens), I don't know. But so far, I'm gonna be a regular viewer.

I also watched the second episode of SUPERNATURAL. Unfortunately, this one wasn't a ghost episode. It was your typical "thing-in-the-woods-killing-campers" story. More specifically, the beastie was a rampaging wendigo. But it really looked more like a skinny half-naked Vulcan vampire than anything else. Maybe the next episode will be better.

The p;owers that be downunder don't realise how how horror rates. Even though everytime they chuck something on it rates it's socks off. Guess we'll eventually get these on DVD release in the future :(

If you get the chance, (and this is non horror), check out BroTown if it get's up north. Kiwi take on the Simpsons :D
