if its the remake then dont bother, it really is crap, starts of pretty good though but then it really drops the ball at the point where they get to the mall. id give it 4/10 overall

As RAVEN said, if it's the remake, don't expect to see the original movie again. But if you take it as a stand alone "zombie movie" and a seperate entity from the George Romero universe, I don't think it's too shabby.
It's more of an "action movie" than a "horror movie" but there are some really great scenes in it. But about half way through, I tend to loose interest in it myself.
Of course, the "running zombies" in this movie are a definite handful, that's no lie.
And just to piss some people off here, keep watching when the credits start to roll. There's more to the movie.
But if you're talking about the original film from the 70's, then I gotta say you're in for a real treat. Dawn Of The Dead is the measuring stick and gatekeeper for EVERY zombie film, past, present, and future. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

abso-fucking-lutely. the only original DAWN OF THE DEAD (thought not my personal favourite Romero zombie film) is a brilliantly made film, great contrast of characters and plenty of, what i would call, quality zombie action.
the remake could have been so much better if they hadn't tried to make it so 21st, personally running zombies do nothing for me and it gets worse when they start doing ninja flips over cars, the characters in the remake are lifeless and DULL. Like i said before it starts off really well, then it sort of drifts off into a state of "mothingness" then kinda picks up pace again.
And be sure to follow DM's advice about the end credits lol, if that doesnt annoy you i dont know what will

Day of the Dead is my fav Romero zombie film
The reviled and neglected Day of the Dead. Damn, that movie took a beating when it first came out!
I'm rather fond of it. Bub and the gore f/x are both wonderful.

Ah, "Day of the Dead"..
Just the mention of the movie gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Im in the "love it" camp, I think Logan, Bub, Rhodes, etc rule. Just my opinion. But I even fast forward flyboy's speech in the middle to Lori Cardille.
But the "Dawn.." remake, I liked it. I think it's a remake in name only, and a seeming coincidence that both films involve a mall at some point. The violence is cool, and the zombies are done fairly well even tho I definitely prefer the shamblers. But truthfully we dont know what effect zombification has on the rate of decomposition, etc, and this movie takes place in the wee hours of a zombie holocaust. Thus, fresh bodies who rise in mere minutes post mortem before even rigor mortis sets in, theoretically, they might not be all that stiff. But as I said, I do prefer the lumbering zombii on one hand for keeping with tradition, on the other, for suspense. Its akin to being locked in a room with water slowly filling it. You can get away from it for a while, but eventually youre f*cked because its gonna catch up with you in the end. Slow death is far more terrifying than a quick one.
The mall also is used to far less effect in the remake. In the original, it was their stronghold and castle, yet also their little paradise in a way. In the remake, it's just a setting, a prop, a stopping point in which to take refuge for a few. The mall is already locked down as well, so all the initial zombie-cide of clearing out the mall is reduced to wiping out a few straggling blue-collar zombies who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was thankful the black chars were not forced into a stereotypical token "ghetto nigga" idiot role that we have to suffer thru, which is a plus. There's some great zombie-cide, one in particular using a propane tank that is hilarious to behold. I think if you bought this on DVD for under 20 bucks, youd be alright with it if youre a zombie movie fan.

I think that's the whole issue right there.
If you can go into this film without comparing it to the original, then you've got a good "zombie movie" on your hands. Not great, but definitely entertaining with excellent make-up, moist FX, good acting, and eye pleasing direction.
Now, if you start comparing it to the original movie right outta the gate, you're more likely to tear it apart much quicker than you would if it was called RUNNING DEAD PEOPLE instead of DAWN OF THE DEAD.
As "zombie movies" go, you could do far worse than this.
