See the film for yourself. I've read bad reviews about films and watched them and they've turned out good.

I actually havn't seen that film, so when you see it let me know what it's like. I do know that there are 7 films in the series:
The Howling - 1981
Howling II: Your Sister Is A Werewolf - 1985
Howling III: The Marsupials - 1987
Howling IV: The Original Nightmare - 1988
Howling V: The Rebirth - 1989
Howling VI: The Freaks - 1991
Howling VII: New Moon Rising 1995
But I havn't seen any of them.

First off all let me say I haven't seen THE HOWLING for close to a decade. So my opinions aren't based on recent viewings. I have seen it a number of times over the years though.
Along with AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (which is regarded, I think rightly, with much more esteem and which was also released in '81) it was one of the new breed of werewolf movies. And a pretty good one too. It definitely has some memorable moments in it.
[BEGINS 'PACING' RANT]
But guys, remember this is now almost 25 years old. To talk about issues of pacing should be expected. View almost any film from the 70's (or mostly early 80's) and you will find that it doesn't jump from scene to scene like a dopehead on speed.
Have you seen ROCKY lately? Man, through modern eyes, that is one slow-ass film. Does that mean it sucks? No, not in the slightest. But you have to be prepared to view it in a different mindset.
TBH I'm much more sick of the (supposed) adrenalin rush delivered by the constant action of many of todays films. Just because they're constantly moving doesn't mean they're going anywhere. Hare meet tortoise. And anyway, how can we feel like action is actually exciting when a films in a constant state of action. THE MUMMY RETURNS, the opposite example. Last time I saw that (after thinking it was a fairly fun film) I just though "Will you just slow the fuck down and tell a godamn story?!"
[ENDS PACING RANT]
So there's my angle on pacing. Pointless? My recollection would say "hardly".
As for recommendations it basically revolves around this.
If you like werewolf movies and don't always get impatient watching 20-year-old films = Watch
Otherwise = Don't Watch.
Next time it's on TV I'll probably watch it again, even if just for old times sake.
As for the sequels I think they literally ALL suck. I haven't seen them all, but the ones I have were incredibly bad. I'm pretty sure that includes III and VI.
So steer clear and watch the original, if you think it's your bag. Every Werewolf fan should have at least seen it.
old movies tend to be better in my opinion new movies are just remakes or sequal anyway it been a while since a new good movie has come along but SAW was a breath of fresh air. Yes the howling is good not as good as werewolf in london but a good werewolf movie any way

I've seen all THE HOWLING flicks! I prefer the original and the second part only. Not from part 3 thru the part 7!
However, I am not really a werewolf myself! I'm a vampire! :teeth:

A lotta horror films get shit reviews from people who take the material way too seriously. You don't view this kinda shit lookin for really intelligent material. It's just for fun. I liked the Howling and it's one of my favorite werewolf movies. The sequels, like any other series, got dumb as they went on, tho 2 was probably the worst of the bunch. I'd recommend seein the 1st one for anybody who asked.
